Live Wire Fall Season Premiere
w/ Melissa Etheridge, Ural Thomas and the Pain + cancer researcher Dr. Brian Druker
September 9, 2014
Doors 7 p.m. | Show 8 .m. | $25-$65
1111 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205
Live Wire will launch its Fall 2014 season of its variety show on Tuesday, September 9th at the Newmark Theater featuring guests Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge, local R&B sensation Ural Thomas and the Pain, and cancer researcher Dr. Brian Druker alongside host Luke Burbank.
The show is not only open to the public, but is also the evening entertainment for the first night of the annual Public Radio Program Directors Conference. This year, hundreds of public radio professionals from across the country will be descending on Portland to discuss the future of public radio and will be in the audience for this show.
“We are excited to launch our fall season at the Newmark Theatre for our Portland audiences and we are especially thrilled to be the evening event for the first night of the Public Radio Program Directors Conference (PRPD).” says Robyn Tenenbaum, Live Wire’s Executive Producer. “Program Directors are notoriously busy so capturing them all in one theater for one show is kind of a dream come true. This will be a big night for us, and we can’t wait to show the best of Portland to the rest of the country.”
Live Wire has been presenting its mix of live interviews, music, storytelling, and original sketch comedy to Portland audiences since 2004 and is currently broadcast on 50 public radio stations across the country. This performance will be the first live event since beginning broadcast distribution with Public Radio International (PRI) in July.
After their premiere, Live Wire will return to the Alberta Rose Theater for the rest of the season.

ABOUT MELISSA ETHERIDGE
Melissa Etheridge is kind of a big deal. Over her 25-year musical career, her smoky vocals and confessional lyrics have helped her sell over 10 million records and win multiple Grammy awards. Her twelfth album, M.E. is available now.
ABOUT URAL THOMAS & THE PAIN
Ural Thomas has been making great R&B since the 50’s – he’s played alongside Mick Jagger and Otis Redding, but is best when commanding a stage all on his own. Joining him is his scorching 10-piece band of NW musicians, The Pain.
ABOUT BRIAN DRUKER
People are calling Brian Druker The Billion Dollar Man, for good reason: as Director of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, his research led to the development of Gleevec, a cancer drug that may just be the silver bullet we’ve been looking for. It’s impressive enough that Phil Knight has offered a $500 million gift to OHSU if they can match it this fall. And they just might.
ABOUT LUKE BURBANK
Luke Burbank grew up one of seven kids, learning early on how to vie for attention. Those profound childhood issues have propelled him to various media projects including This American Life, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, CBS Sunday Morning, and his daily podcast Too Beautiful To Live. He has been the regular host of Live Wire since 2013.
