This year’s Festival includes the return of the popular PIFF After Dark program, showcasing midnight movies like Ti West’s (THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL) THE SACRAMENT and Ari Folman’s (WALTZ WITH BASHIR) THE CONGRESS for adventurous festival attendees. Contained within the PIFF 37 lineup is a sizable animation block with seven animated features on offer, including THE APOSTLE, MY MOMMY IS IN AMERICA AND SHE MET BUFFALO BILL, and the latest film by Portland-born animator Bill Plympton, CHEATIN’.

Have actually never been to a PDX film festival. This year would be the year to start!

  2. Jessica January 29, 2014 at 4:04 pm #

When I first saw this in my email I thought that your headline read: “WINE FESTIVAL TICKETS” and I clicked the link and found myself watching the 2014 Portland Film Festival Trailer. If the films in the festival are as riveting as the trailer I think that I would be hard pressed to find anything better to do with my time….even better than attending a “Wine Festival” :)

  3. Laura January 29, 2014 at 5:21 pm #

I would love to see the film festival!

  4. Andrew January 29, 2014 at 5:21 pm #

Moved back to Portland (my hometown!) this summer after being away for almost six years. It’s so great to be back and have access to this great festival. Even if I don’t win, I still plan on attending.

  16. Christine January 30, 2014 at 1:32 pm #

It would be absolutely amazing to have the opportunity to listen to the directors, producers, and/or cast discuss their films following the 125+ screenings. I would make sure that I was in attendance of as many of those films as humanly possible, and would make sure to bring a guest who has the same appreciation for independent cinema as I do :) I NEED to win these passes, for the love of all that is film in Portlandia in February!

  58. Stotz Thoda January 30, 2014 at 5:48 pm #

Growing up in Memphis and being a part of the music industry there, I was able to cross industry lines and see the work of many indie film workers. I was also able to see the growth of the independent film industry in Memphis and the indie film Festival grow over 10 subsequent years from a handful of recipients to over hundreds of thousands of entrants. It was a really cool to be a part of and I would love to see what Portland has to offer as well.

  59. steadyflick January 30, 2014 at 5:49 pm #

Getting passes to the international film festival would make my year. When I first moved here I went to this several times… I especially love to brush up on my French and Spanish by watching the array of interesting films, but I haven’t been in several years due to funds and would love to get back to it. Lookit that lineup – who *wouldn’t* want to go to as much of this as humanly possible!?!

  97. Randi Wilson January 31, 2014 at 2:19 pm #

My boyfriend is the craziest film buff I’ve ever met! There hasn’t been a major motion picture that’s been made in the last 20 years that he couldn’t tell you about, even if he hasn’t seen it. He often spends his free time watching movie reviewers and he’s always looking for outlets to watch smaller films outside the blockbusters. I’d use these tickets as a way to encourage him to work on his own movie blog to spread his knowledge and movie love!

  98. Leslie January 31, 2014 at 2:32 pm #

People forget what a great cinema town Portland can be! I have been to film festivals all over the country, but Portland’s is STILL one of my all-time favorites!!!

  104. Sally January 31, 2014 at 6:24 pm #

I love PIFF and have gone every year that I have lived in Portland! Last year one of the best films I saw was The Hunt, which is nominated for the Academy Award this year for best foreign film. Being from Denmark, it’s great that PIFF gives me the opportunity to see films from Europe that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to see. This just shows how great film festivals are for exposure to amazing films from all over the world. I already have long list of films that I want to catch this year too, but I have never been to the opening night event, which obviously completes the experience. I really hope that I can be apart of opening night! Thank you!

  105. genie January 31, 2014 at 10:16 pm #

The memories of Cinema 21 are coming back to me. Would love to compare PIFF with SIFF and see so shorts.

It’s like delicious foreign travel while staying in our sweet Portland!!

  109. Brandon February 1, 2014 at 12:51 am #

I’ve endured so many lame superhero movies with my spouse, he pretty much owes me an entire festival of *films* to make it fair. Let’s win!

I love PIFF and can’t leave without. It is the best thing in Portland! I had a pass once before, about 15 years ago and got to see over 40 films. I loved it! Please pick me! THANKS!!!

Because I got 99 problems and choosing what to see ain’t one! “Aya of Yop City”, “Mommy is in America and she met Buffalo Bill”, and “Teenage” all fit the bill. Plus my little bro and I haven’t been and would be thrilled to go.

The Portland International Film Festival is by far my favorite event of the year in Portland.
Every year I anxiously await the Festival schedule to discover what the years’ festival has in store. I think the first foreign film I saw was the Red Balloon in grade school, and ever since I’ve dreamed of traveling and of meeting people from all over the world. Through foreign films I am, in a sense, able to travel to far off distant lands while learning about about what makes people tic in other countries. If I won passes I would continue to spread the word about PIFF, while continuing to share my enthusiasm of foreign films with everyone I meet. Can’t wait!
