Just like last year, we are now conducting a month-long survey of Hophouse patrons, who will be able to choose the top Oregon IPA. All of our customers will be able to vote online or in the pub. Last January, you overwhelmingly picked RPM, a big beer by a newer, small brewery in Bend called Boneyard. We had RPM on Tap 1 most of the year at both pubs – we filled a ridiculous amount of pints and growlers with RPM in 2013.

Will you vote to keep RPM in the top spot, or is there another stronger beer out there? Will it be another up-and-coming Bend brewery, or a beer made here in Portland?

Please vote via the survey, or stop by a pub and fill out a form. One ballot per person – we’ll discard any duplicates.

Like last year, if you do pick the eventual winner, you’ll get a card for a $1 pint of that beer. The winning beer will be announced February 4.

Also this month, within the pubs, we are offering an 8-flight taster of some of your favorite IPA’s. All of these beers are Hophouse staples – loved by us and you alike – and were either top finishers in last year’s polls or are in top demand right now. These beers will be on tap at both pubs all month:

Boneyard IPA, Gigantic IPA, 10 Barrel Apocalypse, GoodLife Descender , Double Mountain Hop Lava, Fort George Vortex, Worthy IPA, Hop Valley Alphadelic.

This is a good opportunity to come see if there is really that big of a difference between the beers, because you can taste them side-by-side. The 8-flight taster will cost only $8. Plus if you love one of these, you can always get a pint or two or fill up a growler.

    Long story made short….. I-need-a-night-out-drinking-beer.

Never been to Hawthorne Hop House but I’m sure a flight of beer samples would certainly start out the night in the right way.

  6. Davey January 22, 2014 at 12:34 pm #

Okay… I will drink your beer (that sweet golden nectar)…if I must.

Since that’s me in the photo, don’t I deserve to win?!?! I hobbled down to 15th Ave Hophouse two days after bilateral knee surgery. My husband took this photo of me tasting all of the IPAs and shared it on social media. Next thing you know I’ll be on a billboard somewhere. LOL :)

  9. David January 22, 2014 at 10:15 pm #

Awesome! I love IPAs but haven’t ever been able to sample them all at the same time to really tell the nuances. This would be the perfect chance to really explore the tastes! Thanks for the chance to win.

When I came to Portland five months ago, I hated IPAs. A few weeks ago I had a watershed IPA and loved it. With tickets to this and some more IPA experience under my belt, I could become a real Portlander! (And stop getting condescending looks from bartenders when I say I don’t usually drink IPAs…)

  18. Jeremy Brill January 23, 2014 at 3:15 pm #

    happy, happy, happy

  31. Yume January 23, 2014 at 9:05 pm #

I love Hophouse – it’s been too long since I’ve been down there.
That said, Allie probably deserves to win if that’s her photo in the promo.

  32. Jo Renee Hartman January 23, 2014 at 10:19 pm #

I like to try different brews from around the state. IPAs are some of my favorites the hopper the better according to my husband.

  33. Danielle January 24, 2014 at 7:16 am #

I have not been to the Hophouse yet, but I know I love a good IPA. This would be an excellent end-of-the-week treat!

  35. Max Hunger January 24, 2014 at 8:53 am #

I haven’t been to this place yet and I feel that I have somehow robbed myself. I am a true hop snob and love all things IPA. This place appears to be a destination place I have to visit.

  36. Chandra January 24, 2014 at 9:58 am #

Winning tasting flights would send me to such great heights.

  37. Lisa January 24, 2014 at 10:53 am #

  38. Richard January 24, 2014 at 1:32 pm #

We are truly hopulent here and we need to continue to spread the word (the word is beer). Oh and over the holidays I played Johnny Hopseed and drove to Michigan w a trunk full of Oregon IPAs for my family and friends.

  39. kris January 24, 2014 at 2:12 pm #

I’m in town this weekend and looking for a new place to visit and sample the best of the northwest.

  40. Elizabeth January 24, 2014 at 3:03 pm #

I would be the safest pick for this tasting, as I can walk to the 15th Avenue Hop House. Cheers, IPA, cheers.
