Wil Blades debuts his new band featuring longtime collaborators Jeff Parker of Tortoise on guitar, sax legend Skerik and New Orleans drummer Simon Lott on this West Coast tour.

Blades, a native Chicagoan, has become the San Francisco Bay Area’s first call organist and is rapidly gaining momentum throughout the world. He has been named in the Downbeat critics poll under “Rising Star” for organ every year since 2006.

Wil has kept the traditional sounds of Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, and “Groove” Holmes alive, while creating a more personal, modern sound. Wil has performed and recorded with John Lee Hooker, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Melvin Sparks, Idris Muhammad, Joe Louis Walker, Don Braden, Donald Harrison, Nicholas Payton, Karl Denson, Will Bernard, Scott Amendola, Charlie Hunter, Stanton Moore, Billy Martin, Anders Osborne, Jason Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Betty Joplin, Eddie Marshall, Herbie Lewis, and many others. “He is the future to carry on the legend, the legacy of the organ, of the B-3.” -Dr. Lonnie Smith.

Been reading a lot about Wil but have never heard his music. Some of my favorite sounds have come from the Hammond B3. So i’m certain this will be an awesome night of music. Thanks for the chance at free tickets!

Would love to win tickets for this event. I love the Hammond B3 sound and would be thrilled to be able to be in the audience for this show. Have been to the Good Foot several times and love the atmosphere. Hope I get lucky.

Jimmy Smith Tunes… artist that I haven’t heard before! Those are pretty much all the ingredients I need for a kick ass night at the Goodfoot. Hook a strugglin freelancer up with some tix for a sick night of some funk and you’ve made my weekend! Pick Me Pick Me!

This sounds like an amazing evening of music. I have been too broke to see much live music lately. So I am crossing my fingers you pick me so I have something to look forward to this weekend.

First off, the Goodfoot is my favorite club venue in town. The music that fills up that room can get raw at times, while the upstairs artwork displays and pinball are not to be missed. Secondly, I’ve caught Wil Blades the past few times he has come to town to play the Goodfoot with Billy Martin (of MMW on drums). This time around, I’m excited to see a full band playing with him, and Skerik on tenor sax taboot! Gonna be a great show!

We would love to go. My husband’s birthday is Saturday night and we have childcare but that’s all we have figured out. We love goodfoot. It would be great to go for free on his birthday.

Yep, I’d like to dance this lineup (Skerik!). Thanks for your continued support of one of the best venues around, Pipeline! :-)
