Kate Boy is a Stockholm-based electro-pop group. Kate Akhurst, originally from Australia, and Swede trio Rocket Boy, consisting of Markus Dextegen, Oskar Sikow Engström and Hampus Nordgren Hemlin, make up the quartet. All four members participate in writing, producing and playing instruments.

The Tempers are a three-piece band from Seattle, Washington consisting of three siblings, Corina Bakker (vocals), James Bakker (synth) and Chalia Bakker (drums). They play a unique style of electronic music that blends the more psychedelic sounds of the early 70s with an experimental electronic sound inspired by artists of the last two decades.

The drums combine the classic 80’s Simmons electronic sound with acoustic live rock drums, and are driving, spacey, and somewhat tropical. The synths are heavy and dancey with emphasis on melodic hooks. Using a combination of vintage synths James has created a unique pop sound. Dark and heavy yet dreamy with hints of 70’s funk. The vocals are dark, theatrical, and rhythmic.

We’ve been following Kate Boy’s rise in the music scene for a year now… my wife and I were best friends with the Akhurst family when we lived in Sydney, but we haven’t been able to see any of them since we returned to the US years ago. Seeing the talented Kate performing live would thrill us as well as her family.
