Win Tickets ($25): 50: A Possible History of Dance Music @ Holocene | 1963-2013 Featuring Cooky Parker, Nathan Detroit, and Freaky Outty (August 2)
The theme for this latest installment of “50-A possible history of dance music” features the summer jam as an inspiration. Think Sly, the Artist, all manner of the boogie and the funk, plenty of rap jams, a healthy dose of modern club and whatever else makes the grade. Basically, all you need for a stellar night out with your friends on the dance floor in the height of summer. Look for a special set of Cooky Parker edits made specifically for the night! Win Tickets ($28): The Dangerous Summer @ Backspace | Pop Punk, w/ Tommy And The High Pilots, Rare Monk, Breaking Laces (August 3)
Straightforward, earnest rock music seems to be a contradiction from the path popular music has strayed as of late. The need for genuine lyrics, purposeful direction and accessible melodies has been long overdue. The Dangerous Summer have crafted a throwback to the days when music was charged with hope and contained a much-needed brand of sincerity. To win, comment on this post here.

Win Tickets ($28): TapWater @ The Goodfoot | Afro-Caribbean, Bluegrass, Funk, Jazz, Cuban (August 3)
From Seattle to San Diego, TapWater’s sound colors outside the lines of Americana, while bringing musical inspiration from around the globe right to your front porch.
TapWater relies on inspired songwriting, virtuoso musicianship and knockout performances to keep you coming back for more. The band’s homegrown humor and down-to-earth style complement the sound seamlessly, and create a live show that is particularly appealing to people who have tired of mainstream pop. Win Tickets ($70): Band of Horses @ Crystal Ballroom | w/ Sera Cahoone + Jenn Ghetto, Indie Rock, Alternative Country (August 7)
Way back in 2010 I opened my mouth to say that Infinite Arms felt to me like it was the first Band of Horses record. I was trying to imply that I finally had the band I’d always dreamt of, that the album was a celebratory debut of this unit. Or was I joking? That’s the thing: I’ve finally become comfortable enough in this band that sometimes I don’t even know when I’m joking.
To me, Band of Horses has always been a study in contradictions. Not just high / low or dark / light. I’m talking absolute piss-taking jokes that no one will ever get vs. serious as a heart-attack paranoia or wallowing sadness. To win, comment on this post here.

Win Tickets ($84): Geographer w/ Grmln @Aladdin Theater | Indie Rock, Dream Pop, Electronic Rock (August 8)
In the summer of 2005, after a series of deaths in the family, Michael Deni left his hometown in New Jersey for San Francisco. He spent the next several months with his guitar and a synthesizer, turning that tragedy into the songs that would soon become the foundation for Geographer.
With the additions of cellist Nathan Blaz and drummer Brian Ostreicher, Geographer spent the next year cutting their teeth in the Bay Area, winning over crowds with the heart-pounding epics that make up their debut record, ‘Innocent Ghosts’. After being selected one of three ‘Undiscovered Bands You Need To Hear Now’ by SPIN Magazine and garnering considerable word-of-mouth praise from their energetic live shows, the band signed to San Francisco-based label Tricycle Records, releasing a 7″ single for the song ‘Kites’ in October 2009.
