Sand in The City 2013, PortlandSand in the City
July 20-22, 2013

Pioneer Courthouse Square, Downtown Portland
Cost: Suggested donation is $4 per person, $10 per family at all times.

The greatest beach party in the country is coming to Portland’s living room, Pioneer Courthouse Square, on July 20th – 22nd. Yoshida’s Sand in the City features fun for all ages with majestic sand sculptures, interactive youth exhibits, live music, entertainment and more! It is estimated that over 60,000 people attend Sand in the City throughout the weekend. Every dollar raised during the event benefits the Children, Youth and Family Services of Impact NW including the Kids on the Block Awareness Program.

The excitement begins on Friday, July 20th, when amateur corporate sponsor teams have only six hours to build an elaborate sand sculpture, designed with an architect and sand mentor. The teams have trained and practiced for more than six weeks in an attempt to win the coveted Golden Shovel award, so competition is fierce on building day! Sand sculptures will be judged by Junki Yoshida, Timber Joey, Amy Roloff, and Ken Carr. Winners will be announced during our Awards Ceremony on Friday evening followed by performances from Queued Up and Michael Allen Harrison.

In addition to the visually stunning sand sculptures, Sand in the City will host outstanding activities for kids at the Children’s Inspiration Village sponsored by Evergreen Aviation, where families can watch puppet shows, play with science experiments, do art projects and jump in the bounce house! After enjoying food and drinks, kids can build their own castle in our giant Sand Box, have their face painted, or take in one of our live performances happening all weekend. (See full schedule below.)

Join us Saturday night, July 21st, for our Beach Bash featuring some great entertainment, food and drinks. We will be hosting an awards ceremony for our top fundraisers in the Friends of the Kids fundraising campaign. The celebration will continue with performances from Pu Pu Platters, Ka Pa Hula o Kanaeaupuni hula dancers and Satin Chaps. For a full schedule of live entertainment, please see below.
