Tour # 1 “Shadowboxing” with Zion*I and Minnesota
The Shadowboxing Tour will kick-off in conjunction with Zion I’s newest album, Shadowboxing, coming out October 2 on Live Up Records. A move from the live instrumentation of their last record towards the gritty, beat heavy sound, Zion I continue to forge new ground musically. But thematically, Shadowboxing is signature Zion I: “This is an album about metaphorical kicks and throws at oneself,” explains Zumbi, “looking inward at the shadow self, and seeking awareness in the darkness of one’s own psyche.” On the group’s 7th LP they’ve enlisted guests such as Bassnectar, Grouch and Eligh, Clyde Carson and Goapele.
Christian Bauhofer, known by his fans as his party crushing alter ego Minnesota, is a producer and DJ heralding from Santa Cruz, CA that has been lighting up venues across the country with his frantic energy and pounding bass. At 23 years old, Minnesota has recently spent his time touring with acts such as Big Gigantic while artists like Bassnectar and PANTyRAID have been incorporating his tracks into their sets. “Quickly becoming a staple in my sets,” commented Bassnectar when discussing the use of Minnesota’s track “Push It”. “Perfect for when I need a track that is epic and churning but also melodically hyped.”
Tour # 2 with Vokab Kompany and Diego’s Umbrella
San Diego band Vokab Kompany (Voted San Diego Music Awards “Best Hip Hop” act 2011) is an electronic, soul influenced hip-hop band from San Diego. Their 7 piece band (keyboard / synthesizer, drums, bass, guitar and violin accompanies the two lead singers/MC’s Rob Hurt and Burkey Baby. You’ll often finding them incorporating stilt walkers, burlesque dancers, clowns, hoola- hoopers guest musicians and belly dancers.
On a planet bombarded with every possible kind of entertainment, a Diego’s Umbrella show is a singular, ecstatic experience; one concert is all it takes to turn you into a believer. Night after night they effortlessly blend marching drums, harmonized shredding and gang choruses with showmanship that has all the fire and unpredictability of youth, coupled with the refinement of years of experience on the road. The group’s uncanny gift for pleasing crowds, from standard clubs to huge festivals such as High Sierra and Outside Lands, has earned them a breathless and ever-expanding following across the United States and Europe, and that connection with other cultures continues to inform their aesthetic. In their music you will hear klezmer, flamenco and punk rock all blended to pop perfection.
Mr. Wu is a DJ, designer, promoter, screen printer, ninja holding it down on the Westcoast. Find him mixing music and slangin’ shirts all over Oregon and beyond.
ShadowPlay is a new performance movement, incorporating LED lights, silhouette dancing, and a new perspective to the way we see dancers on stage. You will see only the form of our featured silhouetted dancers, interpreting body movement within a custom built shadow box, that casts a sexy shadow and mystique of playfulness into your dancing experience. We are excited to announce our debut for this show! Come dance with us!
