Over 20 years in the making, Glen Hansard’s first ever solo album, Rhythm and Repose is available now on Anti- Records. Best known for his work with The Frames, The Swell Season and in the movie Once, Rhythm and Repose is Hansard’s first album of new material since his 2009 release Strict Joy with The Swell Season.

The highly lauded play Once, The Musical won eight Tony Awards including best direction of a musical, best lead actor in a musical and the top musical prize itself. Once, The Musical is based on the feature film Once, with original songs written by Hansard including “Falling Slowly” for which he won an Academy Award. The play successfully opened on Broadway on March 18 to rave reviews including the New York Times who explains, “what was always wonderful about ‘Once,’ its songs and its staging, has been magnified.”

Hansard is celebrated as the principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for the Irish group The Frames, who have established themselves as one of the most influential bands in Ireland. Hansard garnered a reputation as not only an unparalleled front man, but also for his dedicated following and his grounded, real-life songs. Hansard is also one half of the acclaimed duo The Swell Season. In 2007, he and Czech songstress Marketaa Irglova took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” off the Once soundtrack. Hansard and Irglova continued the success of Once with the 2009 release Strict Joy under the namesake of The Swell Season.

When Swell Season came through town last, I generously babysat for my brother and sister-in-law so they could have a romantic evening of beautiful music even though it nearly broke my heart to miss the show. It would be so delightful to have the chance to see Glen and understand what my family was raving about when they returned home that evening. A sort of full circle, if you will!

Frankly speaking…may I? I want to win these tickets because I’ve NEVER won tickets to ANYTHING! EVER! Haha! And I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is FINALLY my turn. I’m 58 frickin’ years old, darn-it….IT’S MY TURN, don’t you agree? I saw the movie Once and I loved it. Then I bought the LP and loved it. And I’m certain that his new material is wonderful. Please, oh please pick me. Thank-you very much.

Missed seeing the Swell Season at Pines Theater in Northampton, MA. Had the lovely opportunity to see Marketa Irglova at MFNW last fall. It would make everything right if I got to see Glen Hansard. Happy belated birthday to me!

  21. Andie October 3, 2012 at 3:05 pm #

One of my last memories of my late mother was listening to the song “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova in her turned-off car in the driveway of my childhood home. We both cried at the beauty of the lyrics and the music neither of us having heard the song before. It’s been four years and still, every time I hear the song, I think of her. I had the good fortune to hear him sing the song with Eddie Vedder last year. Not surprisingly, I cried. All things beautiful remind me of her. I would love to see him again in concert.

My husband is amazing and has been working so hard, and I would like to treat him to a special evening babysitting our two young children while I take my newly single, Glen Hansard-loving sister out for a night of lovely, bittersweet melodies at the Crystal Ballroom.

We would be so appreciative if it works out…

  23. Joseph October 3, 2012 at 10:29 pm #

My wife is amazing and would love to take her sister to the show. I’m thinking if she wins a pair of tickets, and I win another pair of tickets, then she’d be able to take our two young children with her also to the all-ages show so she wouldn’t have to be away from them all evening…

  24. Nathan October 4, 2012 at 2:39 pm #

My friend saw him in MN a year ago and said the show was amazing. I would like to share the experience!

  25. Jacob October 4, 2012 at 2:46 pm #

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova changed my whole muisc world after watched the movie Once. Glen’s tender, emotionional and raspy voice that touches your soul, has left it mark upon the world in a positive way. Truly one of our generations greatest musicians. I hope to count myself luck to say, that I was able to hear him preform.
