HDFEST- The Historic Digital Cinema Film Festival Returns to Portland in May 2012
The schedule was released today for HDFEST's Portland film festival event which is taking place May 2012 at the Living Room Theaters in Portland, Oregon. A complete calendar of events for the festival, which runs May 15th, 16th, and 17th, can be found at www.hdfest.com/festival.
HDFEST was founded in 2000, and over the years, has held dozens of events in cities including New York, Los Angeles, London, Helsinki, Chicago, Paris, Sydney, and Seoul. In regards to this year’s festival event, Festival Director Issac Alexander stated, ¬Å“We are very excited to be returning to Portland and the The Living Room Theaters. We enjoyed a great deal of local support for our last event and people were impressed both with the quality of films and the venue.¬Â
One of HDFEST’s key goals is to encourage independent high-definition filmmaking and enthusiasm for digital cinema. All films in the festival were shot by independent filmmakers exclusively on High-Definition cameras and are screened in HD resolution. Numerous filmmakers will be in attendance at the Portland film festival to discuss their work. HDFEST Festival presentations over the 3-day festival will include 40 selections including HD documentaries, HD experimental films, HD music videos, HD features and shorts many of which are making their North American Premiere or West Coast Premieres. Almost all of the films in the HDFEST Portland line-up will be making their HD Festival Premiere, meaning they have never before been presented in high-definition resolution.
High-Definition Features to be presented include “Light of Mine” directed by Portland local filmmaker Brett Eichenberger and Written and Produced by Jill Remensnyder. The Hollywood Reporter recently reviewed “Light of Mine”, stating, “If a picture is worth a thousand words then the stirringly photographed Light of Mine packs volumes into its unassuming 77-minute running time.” Also by local filmmaker Jonathan Bowen is the feature film “Amy Alyson Fans,” which portrays a relationship of between a struggling actor and his girlfriend who is a rising star in Hollywood. The romantic comedy stars Cooper Harris and Brendan Bradley and also features Josh Sussman Sussman (“GLEE”), Lochlyn Munro (“Dead Man on Campus”), and Chris Wylde (“Space Cowboys”).
Among the documentary films to be screened at the 2012 HDFEST Portland film festival are “Clickin’ for Love” directed by Pablo Passano. This film is an insightful behind-the-scenes glimpse into the online dating world. Other documentaries include “Leh Wi Tok,” which is about the growth of community based radio stations in Sierra Leone, directed by Emmy Award winner John Lavall.
Among the 2012 screening sequences are “High-Definition Animation, Music Video and Experimental Film,” “HD International Films,” “Romantic Relationships and Intrigue” and “High Definition Gay Short Films,” which includes four shorts “GAYKEITH,” “Pride” and “You Can’t Curry Love” and “Two Boys,” which is directed by award winning playwright Victor Bumbalo and stars Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”).
