Preview: Portland Trail Blazers @ Sacramento Kings

By Cain Stoneking

Portland Trail Blazers (28-32) @ Sacramento Kings (19 – 41)
Sunday, April 15, 3:00 p.m. CSNW

It is an early 3:00PM game for the Blazers today in Sacramento. Both teams have had plenty of rest so that should not effect either team. No matter how difficult or hard this season has been on the Blazers, they at least can say they are not the Sacramento Kings. By now, most people would have thought this team would get a little better with the addition of Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins, but instead they tread the proverbial waters in the NBA. They have the third worst record in the NBA, so again, they will have a high draft pick. This team just has no idea where it is going.

It was a tough loss for the Blazers against the Mavericks. They did not play well for three quarters but put together an effort packed fourth quarter only to come up short. It was a reminder of how much the Blazers really missed Brandon Roy. The fall of the Blazers is much different than that of the Kings because the Blazers just flat out lost two players with nothing in return. The Kings on the other hand have just made horrible front office decisions.

The Kings:

Starting Lineup: Marcus Thornton, Isiah Thomas, DeMarcus Counsins, Tyreke Evans, Jason Thompson

Bench: Jimmer Fredette, Tyler Honeycutt, Travis Outlaw, Francisco Garcia, Terrence Willaims

X's and O's:

No matter the records or the implications, the Blazers and Kings play tough basketball against each other. No other team is closer to the Blazers geographically than the Kings so this is more of a regional rivalry than anything else but for the last two seasons these teams have played reckless ball against each other. Since neither team is vying for anything, the play should be loose. However, if the Blazers play as hard as they did in the fourth quarter against the Mavericks, it should be a blowout. Energy and effort is what the Blazers need to hang their hats on without LaMarcus.

Advantage Blazers:

Hickson returns to the city he was kicked out of tonight. Not only has he been a twenty and ten while starting for the Blazers, he has quickly become a fan favorite. The Kings wanted nothing to do with him and bought him out, now its his turn to prove to them why they made a mistake. This will be an exciting game for Hickson fans.

Last Words:

Five of their last six games are on the road. The Blazers can’t really tank because they probably wouldn’t improve their draft position anyway, so here’s hoping for some wins in case next season doesn’t turn out like they hope.

Games left this season:

@ Phoenix 4/16

Utah 4/18

@ Memphis 4/21

@ San Antonio 4/23

@ Utah 4/26
