A Halloween masquerade dance celebration of the ghoulish, strange and weird. Wear your costume, take a spin on the Bossanova’s super dance floor, and dance to the SRO's signature 24 piece orchestral sound, playing memorable chart-topping hits from the 1920s through 2011.

Shake it up with popular and nostalgic music, including Cha Cha, Disco, Fox Trot, Rumba, Samba, Swing, and Waltz. Dance the night away until the bats go home to roost.

Adding to the fun and weirdness: ghoulish burlesque performances set to live music. Mummies, zombies, and gremlins, oh my! A costume contest celebrates Portland's gift of strange as the night approaches the witching hour.

Join the Soundstage Rhythm Orchestra and some of Portland's top burlesque performers at The Bossanova Ballroom for an evening of dancing, costumed fun, and Halloween-themed entertainment.

My birthday is on Halloween—yes, the actual day. All my childhood I had to skip celebrating my birthday on the actual day. Trick or treating was great, but I wanted a normal birthday party. For the past five years I hosted a fabulous Halloween party. However, I moved to Portland a couple months ago and have the space or social network for such a party. I would love to celebrate my birthday a couple days early by attending the Macabre ball!

I love to dance. I dance blues mostly now, but have also danced swing and other styles in the past. I have a significant other that is not a dancer. This would be a great event for the two of us. Dancing and live music! Plus, I have a friend who plays in both the opener band and the orchestra that I’d love to see perform. I also have a top hat and every good party needs a top hat.

I made a fantastic masquerade mask earlier this year, and have had nowhere to wear it…perhaps this event will do?!

My husband and I moved to the Portland area nearly two years ago for school. Between school, work, and home life not ONLY do we not have time to meet people, be we have yet to attend a SINGLE event in Portland…Halloween parties included.

Pathetic? Sad? Unbelievable? Absolutely. The problem always was if we weren’t working, we were in school. And because we BOTH attended the local private art school (will remain unnamed) what money we worked so hard to get went TO said school or to have a roof. Thus…going out-on-the-town and super funness was not an option.

NOW…we are both out, looking for jobs for our degrees, and ready to FINALLY enjoy Portland. Because we both love theatre, dance, Portland, live music, Halloween AND we were both band geeks back in the day, this would be a superb gift.

Not to mention a very welcome break from our couch.

Help an unemployed girl out with free tix. I even made a rad costume from stuff I found at goodwill.

  21. Maria T October 26, 2011 at 8:48 pm #

    1) I have never been to Halloween parties in Portland.
    2) I have never been to Bossanova ballroom, though heard about it.
    3) Me and my husband love to dance and we do it professionally.
=> This sounds like it would be an excellent Halloween party choice!

  22. Kim October 27, 2011 at 11:22 am #

Burlesque and brass almost as good as burlesque and ass, However, beggars can’t be choosy. Unless you’re choosing me. I have a date and nothing to do, make my evening sexy and swingin’.

  30. Jen October 28, 2011 at 9:45 am #

This sounds amazing! My boyfriend has his birthday on the 29th and we are both broke and have no Halloween or birthday plans… Help us make this a memorable weekend despite our current state of poverty!

  33. Cheryl September 4, 2012 at 12:09 pm #

This sounds like the best way to properly celebrate Halloween! I love creating outlandish costumes out of found objects and showing them off! And what better way to show off than to dance the night away. Bonus – burlesque, what could be better?
