White Bird is delighted to open its Uncaged season with the return of Australia's Chunky Move and the North American premiere of Gideon Obarzanek's new work Connected on October 20-22, 2011 at Lincoln Hall, Portland State University. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Chunky Move creates thrilling genre-defying work, diverse in form and content, designed for the stage as well as for site-specific situations.
With Connected, Artistic Director/Choreographer Gideon Obarzanek is collaborating with California kinetic sculptor Reuben Margolin to create an enthralling 60-minute work where five dancers construct a sculpture in real time; simple physical connections quickly evolve into complex structures and relationships.
In addition to the three performances, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) will host a conversation with Chunky Move's Gideon Obarzanek and sculptor Reuben Margolin on Tuesday, October 18, 12:30-1:30 PM, where the two artists will discuss the beginnings of their collaboration and the creation of Connected. Founded in 1909, PNCA (1241 NW Johnson, Portland) is a leader in innovative education programs in the visual arts and design. The presentation will take place in The Commons and is free to the public.
