Portland’s gigantic annual bike festival Pedalpalooza kicks off today! There are currently over 270 events on the website and probably around a hundred for just this weekend. We went through and found 18 that look to be good, well attended, or should be interesting.

Pedalpalooza Kickoff Ride, Parade, & Picnic @ King School (6-8:30PM, NE Grand Ave and NE Going St): Bring your streamers, sequins and sass–and don’t forget your bike. Kickoff Pedalpalooza in style on this costumed bike parade to celebrate our favorite Portland season. We know it’s dinner time, so bring cash for a few bike food/snack vendors that will be at start AND end locations. Bring a picnic dinner for the end point, where we can watch a lovely sunset (and there’s bathrooms, playground and dog run). Ride is less than 5 miles long, is not a loop, ends under 2 miles from start location.
“Remember Your First Bike” Film Screening @ Holywwod Theater, (6-9PM, 1700 NE Alberta St): Ride starts at 6pm at Community Cycling Center, Film screening starts at 7pm at Hollywood Theater. Ride from the Community Cycling Center bike shop to the “Remember Your First Bike?” film screening at the Hollywood Theater. “Remember Your First Bike?” is a documentary by Chad Berkley about the Holiday Bike Drive. Tickets to the film screening are sliding fee $3-$10 and all ticket sales benefit the Community Cycling Center. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at the theater. Please bring your helmet!
Tall Girl Ride @ Irving Park, 7PM – TBD: Tired of having to bend down to hear your friends talk? Constantly on the search for pants with an inseam of at LEAST 34″? Do people call you a glamazon? We hear you. You’ve answered “YES!” to all of these, and we ask that you join our ride – come be large and in charge with us! This ride is for anyone that identifies as a female. You must be at least 5’11” – we will measure! If you have to make up for your shortness with heels, fine. Just know that you’ll have to ride with those puppies on, too!
Mercury Bike Issue Release Party @ Boiler Room (228 NW Davis St, 9:00pm): Celebrate the release of the Portland Mercury’s bike issue (and the start of PedalPalooza) in the proper style: Drunken karaoke! Bring your bike light to the Boiler Room for $1 all-American PBR and wear a helmet for $3 tater tots.

World Premiere Of Bike Smut 5: Speed @ Clinton St Theater (SE 26th Ave and Clinton St, 7:00pm – 11:00pm, 2 showings: the first is at 7pm, the second is at 9pm.): Bike Smut’s 5th year of sexy bicycle videos. There are no DVDs and no chance to see it online. Inspiring movies by various artists who love bikes and sex! Demand has been so great we have added a second show at 9pm! Show is $6 for adults only(18+) and has always been a great party. Afterward we ride with the MMR and your favorite diva!
Prince vs Bowie @ SE 50th Ave and Division St (7:00pm, We’ll roll around 7:30, Look for the gang of bikes gathering in the nearby parking lots & Listen for the Muisc!.): Come run with the Devil & follow THE one and only Disco Trike while I rock the best “The Artist” & “The Thin White Duke” have to offer along with my favorite 80’s tunes! SLOW pace with frequent dancing stops. We’ll link up with the Midnight Mystery Ride for more late night hijinks again! After WNBR & Lit & Loud there is NO Pedalpalooza without a little Prince and Bowie in the Mix ;)

Community Gardens By Bike @ jcafe (533 NE Holladay St, 8:30am – 11:30am): What better way to learn about the greener side of Portland than by bike. Join me for a casual bike ride to various community gardens*. We will meet up at jcafe (Bring your coffee mugs). The ride will descend upon the Portland Farmers Market at Portland State University. The ride will be 10-15 miles long depending on the size of the group.
Bingo/Scavenger Hunt @ Washington School (SE 12th Ave and Stark St, Flag Pole, 11:00am): Who wants to play Portland bingo on bicycles scavenger hunt style? Join in on the fun. The contest will start at SE 12th and Stark at Washington School at the flag pole. Myself and the lovely Cory will hand out Bingo cards to teams of two or three and off you go. If you don’t have a team, stop by, I’m sure you join one. You need a camera phone or a camera to prove your bingo. The first team to get a bingo and then make your way over to the Alberta Flea Market will win the full collection of Free Box the Magazine and a set of bingo stampers!
Sunny Day Nekkid Ride @ Coe Circle (39th & NE Glisan, The golden Joan d’Arc, 2:00pm): The daytime naked ride is just that. Undress to your comfort level and celebrate body acceptence/freedom and the start of Pedalpalooza. Portland’s legal system has formally given its stamp of approval to naked bike riding, so fear not–RIDE FREE. This is an exhilarating occasion that calls for no preparation other than pumping up your tires and grabbing something to carry your clothes in. Sun block and easily reachable simple covering are good precautions. Pervs encouraged to stay home.
N/NE Brewpub Tour @ breakside brewery (820 NE Dekum St, 3:00pm): A tour of some of the best breweries N/NE Portland has to offer. We’ll begin at Breakside Brewery and wend our increasingly wobbly way south to other watering holes including Fifth Quadrant, Amnesia, Widmer, Upright Brewery, and end at Burnside Brewery. Helmets and cash strongly suggested.
Super Santa Bunny Ride @ Hare of the Dog (SE Water Ave and Yamhill St across from the costume store, 4:00pm, at 5ive we fly!): meet at hair of the dog dressed in cape, santa beard, bunny ears etc. we’ll get ready to fight some crime riding around on a mystery route ending up back at hair of the dog to lick our wounds. meet at 4:20, ride by 5:15 back before sundown.
Fig-Leaf Off-RoadBike Ride and 5K Run @ 4250 NW Thurman St (500 yards beyond the NW Thurman Street gate, 7:15pm – 8:15pm): The Fig Leif Naked 10K Off-Road Bike Ride and 5K Run meets at the paved section of NW Leif Erickson Road at 7:15pm on Saturday, June 11th. This is the wide area with a port-a-potty about 500 yards beyond the entry gate at the top of NW Thurman St. Same unorganized run and unsupported ride as last year but this year we’ll have someone to keep runner’s time and watch out stuff while we run. Gaga vs Madonna Mobile Dance Party @ Dawson Park (101 N Stanton St at the stage, 8:00pm, Will go late): We’ve had the Bowie Vs. Prince ride three years now and we’ve decided to move to a new pairing of homohappy pop stars: Lady Gaga Vs. Madonna. Who will win the pedalpalooza queen of the dance? Bicycle dance party on wheels. Bring your FM tuner because this year we have a mobile radio station pumping out the dance music (80’s and beyond). Come dressed as your favorite dancing pop diva and we’ll cruise and dance at locations all over town. Slow pace with frequent dancin’ stops. Bring lights. This ride is not a loop and will go very late.

Zoobomb Century @ Pasture’s Farm House (105 NE Beech St Take Trimet, Congregate in back yard, 11:00am – 2:00pm): The Bike Temple takes you on a “speed dating” style tour of religion in Portland. A loop tour that visits a diverse and devout selections of houses of worship, giving a representative at each a chance to explain what they do and attempt to convert the group before it’s time to take off.
2011 Portland Cirque du Cycling Bike Street Fair: The cycling circus is coming back to Mississippi Avenue! Cirque du Cycling, presented by Laughing Planet Cafe, is a street festival, a circus, a bike race and a parade – and a benefit for Albina Youth Opportunity School.
Gayest Day Of The Year Ride @ SMYRC (3024 NE MLK, Portland, OR 97212, 12:00pm – 3:00pm): SMYRC & the Sprockettes present the 2nd Annual Gayest Day of the Year Ride: a family-friendly community celebration and fundraiser to support LGBTQ youth. Suggested donation: $10 per rider (folks under 24 ride for free!)

4th Annual Fat Girls Ride @ Eastbank Esplinade (5 SE Madison St, at the Vera katz statue, 2:00pm – 4:00pm): This ride could run longer depending on the pace of the group
Chubby, Rubenesque, Zaftig, Whatever! Fat Girls ride bikes too, so lets go for a ride together. All Skill levels welcome, this ride is flat and nobody will get left behind. The midpoint is a lovely park where we can share a snacks and tips before we ride back to the start location.
