Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley (February 6, 1945 — May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for the ska, rocksteady and reggae bands The Wailers (1964—1974) and Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974—1981). Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited for helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.

"What we are doing is creating a real live show and a spiritual experience for those who have been influenced by this great man's music as we have." says Bass player and production coordinator Ryan Bley. This will be Chronicle's 3rd year producing the Bob Marley Tribute show in Portland, OR and it just keeps getting more interesting every year. More info on Facebook event here.

I’m a HUGE Bob Marley fan who has not had the pleasure of seeing this Tribute Band in person. Hopefully I will win the tix and get that chance.

    Praise Jah and holler
    Blow out the candles, Bob
And wish to save me twenty dollars
Sunday after I get off my job
It’s time to celebrate with music and pie
    The world’s greatest vocalist
    Bob Marley, the highest high.

    Robert Nesta,
    he’s stilla the besta
    rasta mon.
    He shares a birthday,
    with Ruth-who passed away
    on a bright sunny day,
    just driving along
    and singing a song
    about three little birds.
    The last thing she heard.
    I know they’re now friends,
    as life never ends,
    and love never dies,
    it moves through the skies.
    As far as which shows-
    I’ll do Sunday with Rose.
Cause the 6th was their day,
I’ll always keep it that way.
    Happy Birthday you two,
    we’ll be celebrating you.
    And honor Joey too…..

I play bass in the tribute band “Ma Barley”. Friday night we will play KMUN radio’s twelfth annual Bob Marley Birthday Party here in Astoria. Saturday I will rest, and on Sunday I’d like to see the show at Mt. Tabor! I wrote a review of the Black Uhuru album “Red” for my student newspaper in 1983. It’s still one of my all-time favorites.

  13. Nancy Karma February 1, 2011 at 4:57 pm #

Today is my 35th birthday. I would love to celebrate by honoring his birthday at this Saturday’s concert!

I would love to surprise my sweetheart with tickets this Saturday (Feb.5) and celebrate Bob Marley’s Birthday (born February 6, 1945). Reggae would not be the same without him!

Thank you so much for the chance!

In the mid-60’s, Bob (aka Donald Marley) used to live in Wilmington, Delaware for a time near where his mom lived…. and I’m from Wilmington, Delaware and new to Portland. I feel like there’s a kinship there and I’d love to get out and meet some more people here in town.

  18. Terasa Gilliam February 2, 2011 at 1:05 pm #

I would love to see Mykal Rose again. I have been out of commission for a bit due to kidney surgery but have bounced back! LOVE LOVE LOVE Mykal!Pick me!!! :)

  19. Lauren LeVine February 2, 2011 at 1:09 pm #

Growing up in the islands and appreciating the culture, lifestyle, and music of Bob Marley, this opportunity to attend the tribute event would be an amazing gift. I’m a huge fan of PDX Pipeline and would love to attend this event representing the Irie movement, and one of Pipeline’s supporters. To surround myself with Marley’s music all night is the only way to celebrate his life & death and I’d love to be a part of it!

  20. Xyla February 2, 2011 at 1:15 pm #

I would loooove to get the tickets because I am a broke mama of 3 that never gets out. PLUS…. I’m short! And the last two shows I saw at Tabor I couldn’t see crrrrrrrraaaappppp!!!! I think I deserve another show because of it. :) pretty please w/ some Ben & Jerry’s on top?

My husband and I are baby boomers who grew up with Bob Marley and he unfortunately passed this life too soon before we could see him in person. It would be our honor to honor Mr. Marley. You’ve gotta love his music.

  23. Fran Baumgardner February 2, 2011 at 6:18 pm #

Also, added to our comments above, Saturday or Sunday would work for us. After all, I would never be picky over something that was free. Love PDX pipeline…pass it on.

  24. Matt February 3, 2011 at 10:16 am #

Hope its not too late! I would love tickets this Saturday. My friend and I LOOOOVVVEEE Bob Marley and we’d love to honor his memory in style instead of sitting in our room because we’re too broke to afford show tickets.

  25. Nancy February 3, 2011 at 4:14 pm #

I would absolutely love to go to the Saturday night show. I just came from San Francisco where everyone loves our King Bob. This would be an amazing first show for me and my boyfriend to attend in Portland and party like the Northwest dose. Seeing as we just moved money is tight and we can’t afford the luxuries of concerts yet, but I would hate to miss this concert that has brought me hopes that Portland knows great music and admires great culture, history and diversity.

  26. Corinna February 3, 2011 at 5:38 pm #

Jah told me to come on Saturday.

  27. Kim February 3, 2011 at 7:56 pm #

Happy Birthday, Bob, from the world. Thanks Mykal and the Tribute, for making it special for Portland! I’d love tickets on Saturday.

  28. Andrew February 3, 2011 at 8:50 pm #

One Love, Much Love, Ja Ja Ja Love! I feel blessed sharing the same day of birth as Bob Marley (Feb. 6th.) My friends and i are staring the night at the “ACROPOLIS” and ending it at Mt. Tabor Theatre, free tickets or not. That being said Free tickets to Saturday Nights Show would be a great birthday gift.

I’ve got a friend visiting from South Korea this weekend and he’s a huge Bob Marley fan! His music speaks to many cultures across the world. It’d be a great way to introduce him to Portland and the great shows we have here.

This sounds so epic. I would love to check it out. What a great way to honor Bob’s birthday. This would be an amazing chance for me to unwind and enjoy some good music. Being an educator I cant afford cool tickets on my own so winning these tickets would rock my world.
