  15. Carl August 18, 2010 at 4:13 pm #

I really have enjoyed Folk Life up in Seattle the last few years and would totally enjoy seeing what is lined up for Portland though sadly Portland has priced it out of bounds for the simple retail clerk and everyday person. Let me go please.

  16. will August 18, 2010 at 4:15 pm #

awesome! consider me entered! …wait did that sound right?

My girlfriend’s birthday is Aug 21st and she is a cellist from Boston. I am trying to show her how awesome our folk music scene is here in PDX. It would be an amazing weekend of music and fun together!

  40. Matthew August 19, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

The Woody Guthrie tribute film and performance is a one-of-a-kind event…

  41. Karen August 19, 2010 at 2:04 pm #

Because my husband and I are dying to hear so many of these performers live and just can’t afford the ticket prices… because we are broke and exhausted from work and worry, and excellent folk music is a powerful tonic for a weary soul.

  42. alan silver August 19, 2010 at 2:04 pm #

Aw, Chantelle put together a great line-up for the PFF – so many fab bands and performers. This would make for a dreamy, folk-infused weekend – if you draw my name for the tickets, I won’t regret it.

  43. Jim August 19, 2010 at 2:07 pm #

It’s a fabulous array of shows that feature some of the best of Portland …. hope the turnout encourages a 2nd annual festival next year.

  44. Michael August 19, 2010 at 2:16 pm #

I love folk music. It’s great music for the whole family.

  45. Tracey Lane August 19, 2010 at 2:16 pm #

Hey friends, I’d love to hop on my vulcan and cruise on down to the best city I’ve ever visited. Not to mention I could actually meet the person who took an interest in me when I was 12 and put me on the right direction for being okay with myself. Portland is awesome!

  46. Shely August 19, 2010 at 2:21 pm #

I need to win these tickets because this is the perfect opportunity to break my record of seeing 59 shows in one weekend. Help me get to 60!

  47. Jim Withington August 19, 2010 at 2:24 pm #

I’d love to see Laura Gibson, one of PDX’s top performers, and there’s so much awesome in this entire festival lineup. The Old Church is the perfect venue for it as well.

  48. Alyssa August 19, 2010 at 2:30 pm #

I love folk and I love Portland and I love this line-up and I love the venues. I’ll go to the free shows anyways, but I’d love to go to the rest too.

  49. Jackie August 19, 2010 at 2:32 pm #

I’d love to get a pass becuase this is one my first free weekend all summer without plans to go to a wedding or a birthday or a camping trip or something else out of town. Finally, time to spend in PDX and I want to make the most of it!

  50. Ryan S August 19, 2010 at 2:45 pm #

the banjo is hands down my favorite instrument. My appreciation to all those who finger pick

  51. Lauriel August 19, 2010 at 3:06 pm #

I am super excited to see many of these bands! But one reason I want to win the tickets is because I used to live next door to Kimya Dawson when I was a kid in Olympia, but I have never seen her perform, so that would be pretty cool. Cheers!

  52. julie August 19, 2010 at 3:13 pm #

i play the ukelele . . . which i learned when i was a high school senior in ohio. there was a retired guitar-maker who offered free lessons. we performed “tumblin’ tumbleweeds” at the spring concert before my graduation. can anyone else say that?!?

and i would LOVE to see saturday’s performance at the wonder ballroom, with kimya and the gentlemen from senegal and zimbabwe. please! :)

  53. Rob W August 19, 2010 at 3:14 pm #

Because these are my 60 (+) favorite bands of all time!

  54. Hayden August 19, 2010 at 3:32 pm #

I like folk music. especially live.

  55. minh August 19, 2010 at 4:10 pm #

i’ve never been to folk festival. this would be a good chance to experience it!

  56. Rachael August 19, 2010 at 4:18 pm #

I’d like to attend because live music in Portland is better than live music in Los Angeles. I guess there’s just more talent here! :)

  59. Kari August 19, 2010 at 5:39 pm #

I would love to win tickets to the FolkFest. Lots of great music and I honestly couldn’t name a song Lady Gaga sings.

  60. Kim August 19, 2010 at 5:46 pm #

I would love to go to the folk festival! I am but a poor recent college graduate, but I love folk music and festivals. I have heard really great things about some of these groups so I would love the chance to check them out and hear them live!

  61. Rachel August 19, 2010 at 6:23 pm #

Folk is incredible! I’m a broke music major, still struggling through college and would be most appreciative of some tickets!

  62. Matt Shoobridge August 19, 2010 at 6:24 pm #

I love Portland! The Portland Folk Festival!

  63. ViolaRose August 19, 2010 at 7:12 pm #

I need a little folk spice to make my summer pie complete

  64. Liam August 19, 2010 at 7:35 pm #

I’m leaving Portland to go to grad school and this would be such a wonderful way to spend my last full weekend here! I’d take my mom for her birthday! Folk was the first music I heard when I was growing up…

  65. eileen c August 19, 2010 at 8:36 pm #

I am folk. My folks are folk. And their folk are folks too.
    Love all folk(s)!

  66. Renata Tirta August 19, 2010 at 8:42 pm #

I’m a huge supporter of the local Portland folk scene. When I was a concert coordinator for my college, I got the Cello Project, Thao (well she’s not Portland native, but she’s on the lineup), Adam Shearer, and Laura Gibson to come out and play shows. I worked hard and now I’m too broke to go, so you should pick me! Please?

  67. Maggie August 19, 2010 at 8:47 pm #

I missed out on pick-a-thon because I couldn’t afford it, I’d hate to miss out on this too. Folk music is like my lifeline.

  68. Deb August 20, 2010 at 8:11 am #

I followed the original folkies. Let’s hear from the new!
Tickets for two generations of music lovers.

  69. Mya August 20, 2010 at 9:00 am #

Oh man, I took at t look at the line-up for this year and it looks incredible. I’d love to be able to go to some of these shows. I’ve been working 65 hours/week all summer and I need some folk music to cheer me up! I’ve been so grumpy lately! I also missed out on Pickathon and had resigned myself to missing out on Folk Fest too due to money reasons, but now there’s a glimmer of hope…

  70. rice1077 August 20, 2010 at 11:30 am #

I’ve never been this festival and after paying tuition for summer term, I don’t have have the cash to buy tickets. But I would love to go!

  71. lisa August 20, 2010 at 11:55 am #

Ive never been & free might make me a convert

  72. donaldallgeier August 20, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

I could really use a weekend of losing myself in some folk music.

  73. Jesse August 20, 2010 at 1:16 pm #

I would be grateful beyond words to win these tickets for three reasons:

1.) Since moving back to portland it has been quite the struggle staying afloat, In a terrible economy. I would never be able to afford going with my girl to an event/events like this, and with how rough a summer it’s been it would be truly a gift to let loose for a weekend

2.) I just moved back up to Portland after being away from Oregon for almost 6 years, and would love the opportunity to check out the local music venues I have yet to discover.

3.) I love music, in all forms and since coming back to Portland my musical horizon continues to broaden, I love it and want more!

  74. Liz K August 20, 2010 at 1:20 pm #
