Reminder: Milk Preimer with Gus Van Sant, Sam Adams & March Fourth

Somehow I missed that Mayor Elect Sam Adams and March Fourth Marching Band will also be at the premier (in addition to host, Gus Van Sant) of Milk tomorrow evening. This is going to be a superb event and benefit for Outside In.

Update: Amy from AroundTheSun blog hooked this up in the comment(s)– You can get a 40% discount on tickets when you use the password PCPA at the PCPA box office or at Ticketmaster. Here's the Ticketmaster link: good until 4 pm today (Nov 14) or while supplies last.

Gus Van Sant Debut of Milk: Outside In Benefit | November 14

Gus Van Sant Presents Hometown Celebration of Outside In's 40th Anniversary

On November 14, 2008, the Portland Milk debut will occur at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in the heart of the downtown cultural district (1037 SW Broadway). Red carpet, Hollywood-style search lights, and the historic illuminated marquee will set the scene as film industry celebrities, local civic leaders, and Outside In supporters gather to experience Milk and benefit the organization.

Gus Van Sant will deliver personal remarks to the crowd of 2,700 at 8:30 p.m.
A patrons' dinner and director's reception for 250 event sponsors will precede the screening.
The Milk screening will be the fourth debut Gus Van Sant has hosted to benefit Outside In.
"We are thrilled that Mr. Van Sant has aligned the excitement surrounding Milk with our landmark 40th anniversary," said Kathy Oliver, executive director at Outside In. "His gracious on-going support has played a profound role in the success of the services that we provide," Oliver added.

The 40th anniversary of Outside In underscores the organization's important role in the Portland community and the level to which community support has fostered its growth. Van Sant's Milk screening fundraiser will be a monumental occasion as the organization looks ahead.
Outside In provides comprehensive services to more than 500 homeless youth per year.  Initially, these youth may have emotional walls they have built around themselves to survive.  Outside In focuses on their strengths and builds the confidence that is required for them to be able to obtain self-sufficiency and accomplish their goals.

Outside In provides safety off the streets, meals and skilled counselors.  An on-site transitional housing program delivers one of the most successful outcomes in the nation.  Access to medical and mental health services for 8,000 uninsured people per year, a nationally recognized job training program, a thriving education program and drug and alcohol treatment groups have proven to move youth off the streets.

"Thanks to exceptional support from friends like Gus Van Sant, generous patrons, and the community as a whole, Outside In has spent forty years making an immediate and long-term difference in the of lives of thousands," Kathy Oliver said. "As we enter new decades and envision what's to come, we encourage new and returning supporters to join us for a special celebration of film, forty years, and the future of Outside In."

Milk tells the story of prominent gay activist and San Francisco city politician Harvey Milk during the years leading up to his assassination in 1978.

"Just as Harvey Milk's bravery and sense of hope changed history, Outside In has encouraged and empowered a population that is sometimes overlooked and underestimated," Gus Van Sant said.
Starring Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin and James Franco, Milk has generated widespread anticipation among fans and film critics.

Tickets for the Milk red carpet debut are available for purchase online (via Ticketmaster) and at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) box office (1111 SW Broadway). Prices range from $37.75 – $71.75.  Due to strong interest, advance ticket purchases are recommended.
