April 17th – Old School Rap Music Videos 1982-1988

“The 1980s were a tremendously fertile time for both Hip Hop and the music video, two uniquely American art forms that both came of age at the same time. Huge leaps and bounds were made every single year in both realms; more importantly, these innovations crossed between the two and each one informed the other. From the roughly edited street footage of Run DMCs Rock Box (1983) to the smooth narrative and mindblowing acapella section of Boogie Down Productions My Philosophy (1988), this selection of true school era rap videos shows how quickly and vastly both rap music and the music video grew up. Highlights include Roxanne Shantes first video, shot almost entirely in her living room; Human Beat Box by the Fat Boys, where cartoonish ghetto blasters are superimposed onto their necks; some absurdly ridiculous synchronized dance routines from Nucleus; and classic favorites by De La Soul, Kool G Rap and more! (60 MIN)”

There is more going on tonight and throught the week. Hit up Jackpot for more info.
