Friday night’s Portlandia should be pretty great. Kyle McLaughlin returns in his role as Portland’s Mayor (and real Mayor Sam Adams as assistant), and it also features the Dream of the 1890s video. They released it across the web yesterday and you can see it on IFC here.

Much of the filming takes place at Olympic Provisions butchery and restaurant on SE Washington St. See pics and interview the owner on Pipeline here: The Slowest Sausage. Also, Carrie Brownstein was at East Burn on Tuesday, so perhaps she likes $2 Craft Beer Tuesdays (who doesn’t?) and knows they play her show there.

From IFC: At the start of the first season of “Portlandia,” Fred and Carrie explained that one of the best things about Portland was that The Dream of the 90s was still alive in Portland. You know, the 1990s where piercings and working in coffee shops and forming bands were actual things that people did. That dream was still alive Portland a.k.a. the city where young people go to retire. However as Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein began production of the second season of the hit comedy, they realized that they had got it all wrong. While the Dream of the 90s really was alive in Portland, it was off by an entire century. That’s right, the dream that is alive in Portland right now is the Dream of the 1890s. Portland’s 2012 Worst Day of the Year bike ride takes place next weekend. The rousing beats of the Last Regiment Drum Corps will send you off on an 18-mile odyssey around downtown Portland.  You’ll be kept warm and comfy at every turn with belly-nourishing treats including hot cocoa, doughnuts, organic fruit, chai tea, coffee, bagels, hot cider and much more.

Laughing Planet Cafe, experts in wholesome yumminess, is cooking up a finish line meal featuring local, sustainable and organic soups served with fresh focaccia bread.

Join thousands of other bundled-up riders as you laugh at the elements and circle the city on bicycles.  Want more of a challenge?  The optional 45-mile route loop traverses the west hills out to Hillsboro. The ride is limited to 4,000 riders and it will sell out, so register early to ensure a spot on the hilarious ride. Sequential Art Gallery is excited to host Portland native Carolyn Main’s first solo exhibition of her art, entitled “Main Entrance”. We gave Carolyn carte blanche over the gallery space, and this is what she came back to us with…

The works presented will include varied renderings of couplings, both romantic and lewd, and a collection of prints. This will also be the premier of Carolyn’s brand new pixel animation sequence, titled “Burn it Down (extended 3 minute cut)”.

Reception will be 6-10pm on First Thursday, February 2nd, with wine, beer, and snacks. You can also pick up a pair of the artist’s Zombie blood splatter panties, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Some content in this show may be considered “mature”.

CBS Films’ Salmon Fishing in the Yemen opens the 35th Portland International Film Festival, on Thursday, February 9, the first of over 125 films from three-dozen countries. Over the last 35 years, the Festival has provided diverse and innovative films to an audience of more than 35,000 annually from throughout the Northwest.

One of the region’s most culturally diverse arts events, the Portland International Film Festival offers a broad mix of new international feature films, shorts, documentaries, and visiting artists, including submissions for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and works by New Directors. The complete list of films will be announced January 24.

From the beloved director of Chocolat and the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire comes the inspirational comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. A visionary sheik (Amr Waked) believes his passion for the peaceful pastime of salmon fishing can enrich the lives of his people, and he dreams of bringing the sport to the not so fish-friendly desert.

Willing to spare no expense, he instructs his representative (Emily Blunt) to turn the dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the involvement of Britain’s leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) who happens to think the project both absurd and unachievable. That is, until the Prime Minister’s overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a ‘good will’ story. Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible. The film’s distributor, CBS Films, plans to release the film in Portland on March 23.

Following the screening at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts’ Newmark Theatre (1111 SW Broadway Avenue) will be an Opening Night party—both inside and outside in the courtyard—at Nel Centro (1408 SW Sixth Ave) sponsored by Nel Centro, Hotel Modera and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, with beverages provided from Pyramid Breweries and Firesteed Winery, and music from the jazz/swing band Swing Papillon.
