Backed by his acoustic ensemble "The Healers," singer songwriter Holcombe Waller presents a theatrical performance from March 26 — 29 of his original folk songs at the Imago Theatre. Weaving lyrics, monologues, and film to create deeply personal song performances, he rummages through the stories behind his songs to trace an elusive but vital search for meaning and context in an ever shape-shifting world.
Into the Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest is a National Performance Network Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by Portland Institute for Contemporary Art in partnership with On the Boards and the National Performance Network. Also supported by the MAP Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. Funded in part by the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC).
That so much can be expressed using so little should force us to perk up our ears the next time Waller needs to get something off his chest.

Additional Information on Holcombe Waller's Into The Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest
Holcombe Waller first workshopped Into The Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest at the 2007 Time-Based Art Festival to critical acclaim. After receiving grants from RACC, the very competitive MAP Fund and a co-commission with PICA and Seattle's On the Boards, Waller brought a newly expanded version to Seattle, San Francisco as well as the 2009 Under The Radar Festival at the Public Theater in New York. PICA and Waller are thrilled to finally be bringing this fully developed piece back home to where it all began.
Holcombe Waller lives in Portland, Oregon, USA. He has released three albums on his own label Napoleon Records, now lovingly named POW WOW NOW. He is currently writing and performing a series of theatrically illuminated cover concerts as Mihael Sagalovesky, the clown. Along with new forthcoming collaborations with Seattle choreographer Zoe Scofield and San Francisco dance legend Joe Goode, Holcombe is also recording his new song collection, Into the Dark Unknown.
