2014 Portland Shakespeare in the Parks Schedule | Free, Original Shakespeare Festival

Now in its sixth season, the Original Practice Shakespeare Festival (OPS Fest), a non-profit theatre company, introduces two new Shakespeare plays to its repertory: Henry IV, Part 1 and The Taming of the Shrew.  Henry IV, Part 1 is one of Shakespeare’s great histories.  It is the second play in Shakespeare’s tetralogy dealing with the successive reigns of Richard II, Henry IV (Part 1 and Part 2) and Henry V.  In contrast, The Taming of the Shrew is one of Shakespeare’s great comedies, depicting the courtship of Petruchio and the headstrong “shrew”, Katherina.

June 21st marks their fourth Annual “Midsummer Midsommer” performance of A Midsommer Nights Dreame on a Midsummer night, in a new location – the Mount Tabor summit. This raunchy late-night performance is not suitable for children, and this year our loyal OPSFest audience will decide the casting!  On the OPSFest website, audience members can cast their vote on which OPSFest actor they want in which role, creating a cast entirely of their choosing.

OPS Fest will also present their 3rd annual Laurelhurst Shakespeare Festival, expanded to two weeks, from July 18th-26th in Laurelhurst Park, where they perform all ten of their plays in only six days.

About the Company — OPS Fest is dedicated to bringing a new style of Shakespearean performance to Portland and the surrounding area, by reviving the old. Their actors perform using the same performance techniques as they did in Shakespeare’s own time, which means limited rehearsal, an onstage prompter, fast-paced energetic acting, and lots of audience interaction!
