In addition to Horner and Irwin, the festival features acclaimed international teller Carol Russell, as well as regional tellers Rick Huddle and Anne Rutherford. Events are scheduled at various libraries and locations throughout the community; most are free.

And this festival is not just for kids! At Cringe Down Memory Lane at Belmont Library on Tuesday, Nov. 13th @ 6:30pm, read your most embarrassing high school journal entry out loud. At DIY Stories: The Day I Really Earned My Paycheck at Central Library on Thursday, Nov. 15th @ 12pm, share your best/funniest/scariest/weirdest stories from the working world.

25 PHOTOGRAPHERS, 25 OBJECTS OPENS AT NEMO DESIGN
PORTLAND, OR — Clutch Camera & Lighting presents 25 Photographers, 25 Objects, a group photography exhibition opening on November 2nd at Nemo Design.

Clutch co-owner Greg Hennes curated the exhibition, pairing 25 local professional photographers with everyday objects ranging from a set of skeleton keys to Hennes' own beard, and then challenging them to take their best shot. The objects were submitted by the photographers themselves and were then randomly distributed, lending the exhibition an air of participatory anarchy—its evolution unpredictable and its results surprising. Hennes' goal was to encourage the photographers involved to step outside of their professional practice and engage in a creative,
collaborative project buoyed by its own restraints. The impetus for the show stemmed from Clutch owners'—Hennes and Justin Leach, both participants in the exhibition—desire to provide a space for local professional photographers to create innovative work in partnership.

He purposefully organized the show to include up-and-coming as well as established local photographers. The group includes photographers featured in last year's Oregon Biennial—Mark Hooper and Holly Andres, Chris Bennett of New Space Center for Photography, David Emmite, Tamara Lischka, Chris Hornbecker, Angela Cash, and Carlin Sundell, among others.

Each print will be 24" x 30", flush mounted and on display through the end of December. Some works may be available for sale. An opening reception will be held November 2nd, 7PM at Nemo Design, located at 1875 SE Belmont.

Sponsors of the show include Clutch Camera & Lighting, Pinball Publishing, Pushdot Studio, Oregon Blue Print, and Nemo Design.

This is the second in PDX PIPELINE's (pdxpipeline.com) series of Domino Clubs/Socials. They occur on the first Wednesday of every month. Many cities and peoples around the world regularly play in domino clubs and tournaments. This is the only known one in Portland.

We will have people playing all 5s, Mexican Train, and Texas 42. We have many sets of dominoes, but you can bring your own–hopefully not marked :)

The event is FREE. We give away prizes based on no certain criteria except randomness.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY, we will show.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY, there will still be art, music, beer, waffles, and video happening…and just socializing

At the last event, we taught several people. At this one, there will be many people who can teach and play. It is a club, not a tournament.

Jace Gace will also be projecting various film clips, domino scores (I've lost a couple times), music videos, and possibly myself playing the Dominologist–beat him once.  :)

This year's event will showcase a diverse array of independent Pacific Northwest bands including Velella Velella, Strength, Rainbow and the Kittens, Neo Pagan Jazz Bastards, Mattress, Pulse Emitter + Brizbomb, as well as KBOO DJs Rolf, Dr. Zomb and Jamilah. Well it's been a hell of a week in music…Radiohead (radiohead, in rainbows, a review of sorts…), Madonna et al, but nothing beats a big fat sweaty night out in a small club watching this week's act of the moment, Justice tearing it up.

And I say that without cynicism as much as with a dose of reality, things move fast these days.

The Justice guys don't DJ so much as fire off sharp, staccato cut ups interspersed with power drill bursts of synth bass lines all designed to make you bounce off the walls, and the crowd at Holocene did just that.

Not quite as intense a night as the Girl Talk blow out but still pretty impressive. Props also to Adam and Justin from Nemo Design for the cool Justice poster.

Well, Justice plays Portland, the biggest thing to hit town since the last biggest thing to hit town and you didn't get tickets? There may be a solution. I talked to Scott Mclean over at Holocene and he tells me that there will be 50 tickets available at the door on the night of the show so you procrastinators may well be in luck yet.
