Update: Interview & Photos With Malice: Let Her Entertain You

I went to the Holiday Ale Festival yesterday with the Amplify-Interactive crew. There were a lot of people and a crazy amount of good beers. I had one in particular called Scaldis Noel that was 12%. That was some tasty but rough stuff (C-block didn't fare so well for the experience of having one after 3 or 4 other beers).

Anyway, it is still going on–and you too might see Portland's most famous adult dancer (also model, actress and Rock video essential), Malice, out there.

Nov 29: "The only beer festival in the Northwest to be held outdoors in the dark, cold and often wet month of December."

November 20, 2007 — Julian Chadwick

Check out HolidayAle.com if you haven't recently seen a website that contains frames and looks like it was built with Microsoft Office/Frontpage in 98, here ya go. Good stuff…I remember those times…a simpler time indeed..now let's drink some holiday ales

From Holiday Ale:

Welcome to the Holiday Ale Festival, the only beer festival in the Northwest to be held outdoors in the dark, cold and often wet month of December.

Despite chilly temperatures and often-inclement weather outside, attendees stay warm and dry at the festival under a large clear tent that covers the venue while allowing for views of the city lights. Gas heaters create a cozy ambiance under the boughs of one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees.

More than three dozen potent winter ales are featured at the event, all of which are created specifically to bring warmth and cheer to the holiday season. The beers are rich, robust and full of complex flavors.

Cheers to the Season!

Located at:
Pioneer Courthouse Square

701 SW Sixth Ave (between Yamhill and Morrison Streets) Portland, Oregon 97205

Right on the MAX line!
Thursday: 11am to 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 11am to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11am to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday: 11am to 6 p.m.

The Holiday Ale Festival is a joyous tradition among beer lovers who treasure the big beers of winter. Held outdoors in the chilly month of Dec., the festival pours more than three-dozen robust winter craft brews, the majority of which have either been created specifically for the event, or are vintage or reserve beers not available in the general market. It is effectively the most prestigious winter beer sampling opportunity on the West Coast.

The 12th annual Holiday Ale Festival will begin on Thursday, Nov. 29, and continue through Sunday, Dec. 2 at Pioneer Courthouse Square, located at 701 SW Sixth Ave at the intersection of SW Broadway and Yamhill streets, immediately on the MAX Light Rail line. Hours for the event are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Thursday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission into the venue is free. A purchase of a 2007 souvenir mug is required for tasting beer, and costs $5. Patrons purchase script for $1 apiece. It takes $4 in script for a full mug of beer, or $1 for a taste. The event is for ages 21 and over.

Despite winter-like temperatures and often-inclement weather, attendees stay warm and dry under a large clear tent that covers the venue while allowing for views of the city lights. Gas heaters create a cozy ambience under the boughs of one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees. In addition to beer tasting, the festival also features on-site food, beer merchandise, complimentary sodas for designated drivers, mead sampling, and seasonal background music.

The Holiday Ale Festival annually draws more than 15,0000 people to the event. To alleviate long lines and facilitate better access to the beer, festival organizers have increased this year's event space by 20 percent.

Also returning to the event is the fourth annual Brewers Brunch, taking place on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to Noon on the upper level of Pioneer Courthouse Square. The auxiliary event features breakfast and an assortment of local and imported winter beers not available at the festival itself. Tickets cost $30 and are available at www.holidayale.com.

The roots of brewing special winter and holiday beers trace back to the mythologies of Greece and Rome. The pagan celebrations of the winter solstice marked the return of light to the world, and triumphant ale was brewed to mark the occasion. Today, these "winter warmers" ward off the chill of winter and warm both the palate and soul. Complex in aroma and flavor, these heavier beers are big in body and high in alcohol. Thanks to an extra dose of malt, most of these beers are rich and bold, with chocolate, caramel or coffee flavors; others benefit from the addition of herbs, spices, and fruit. In keeping with the flavors of the season, there are often hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves in the brews.

With September being in the title of a bulletin, it indicates that summer is nearing an end. So come on out for possibly 2007's last hot day in the Park. Sad we know – but let's all go out having fun in the sun and most likely go for drinks at the Night Light Lounge following. They have a great sunny deck and an awesome happy hour menu.

This is what people typed into google or yahoo (msn, etc) and came to the PDX PIPELINE from 5PM yesterday to 5PM today (Midnight GMT is what WordPress uses).

So, let's take a look…

greg oden

Greg Oden…really honored….I need to put more info about you to direct those people to right place/info (but it looks like they are finding your blog from my earlier posts). I'm sure I'll be writing Blazers stuff when the season starts (email us if you want to)…Rip City baby!

Plan B Bar 1305 SE 8th Ave portland oregon

Nice – the searches for Plan B Bar are going up every day. Good for Jeff! I'm all about the Plan B (and the B-Triangle) success.

yep 2 and 3–Plan B is almost Hansel/Flexcar hot!

black tangerine music

black tangerine music must be playing a show this weekend or just getting more popular, but here is some info on their pioneer square noon tunes show with a link to their site.

piercing

hmmm…weird, must be because of this Dante's show where there was live tattooing and piercing going on and THE SMOOCH GIRLS!

Again, that's that bad mojo KUFO 101 has created with hummer/bummer–get a hybrid or a biodiesel…come on, it's been 2 months since you said you would/lied.

8. bike commuting

Cool, but you should really go see the expert in Portland on this, Mr Jonathan Maus of BikePortland.org

9. Diggnation

See Kevin Rose and Alex–you gotta do a Diggnation in the PDX.
