I was told by MJ/Mirage (rumor has it she will be wearing a pink candy theme outfit) about this event Wednesday. You pay a little cash (goes to models), bring your sketchbook, and draw pictures of cabaret models. Apparently, it is done by “London” of Suicide Girl fame. I wonder how one could possibly get class credit for this….hey AiPD, start working on that

September 14th 2007: The Art Institute of Portland Graduate Portfolio Show

The Art Institute of Portland Graduate Portfolio Show is less than two weeks away – Friday September 14th 2007!

I've been attending the graduate portfolio show for the past 2+ years, eagerly anticipating the work of my fellow students, learning from their successes & failures. Now it's my turn.

I enrolled in the Advertising program at AiPD in the fall of 2004 and for the past 3+ years it's been a constant struggle to find a balance between school (in & out of the classroom), work and being a wife & a mom. There have been many sleepless nights to say the least and many sacrifices made along the way, but I knew the payoff would be priceless.

During my time at AiPD, I've had the opportunity to accomplish some pretty amazing things. Two notable items worth mentioning:

1. Recipient of the Gold Student ADDY award in March 2007 for a cervical cancer awareness public service announcement
2. Founder, VP of brashcreative (a student organized advertising agency that works with Portland businesses to develop integrated creative solutions)

Words can't describe how good it feels to finally finish my BS and at the same time help create a legacy that other students will benefit from in the years to come.

In the last few days before graduation, I'm trying to stay sane and must remind myself that it's ok to sleep. The infamous portfolio will live on…

Secret Society Ballroom – Art and Craft Fair
Sunday, November 25, 2007 (One Day only!)

Thirty-six artists will feature unique, locally handmade gifts including jewelry, accessories, handbags, crocheted hats, clothing for adults & children, reconstructed apparel, soap & candles,  glassware, clayware, plushies, cards & original artwork at the 3rd annual Secret Society Sale.  In the recently renovated Secret Society Ballroom local artists sell their handmade treasures in a relaxed atmosphere.

Shoppers can meet the artists while enjoying snacks and drinks.  There will also be a silent auction with various desirable goods, such as a night at McMenamins Edgefield Bed and Breakfast and dinner or premium art supplies donated by collage art store, along with many other items.

For the 50th consecutive year, PAF is hosting the Rosey Awards, a celebration of world-class, locally created work celebrating Oregon and Southwest Washington's Communication Arts. Join PAF for an evening of incredible creative work, an opportunity to mingle with our industry's most innovative thinkers, and have a ton of fun.

Our Rosey host this year is Chris Coleman, Director of Portland Center Stage and a leader of the Portland creative scene! Chris has long been a public advocate for the arts, locally and nationally. He is a passionate student of how art can create community. He is a 2004/05 fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Oregon. A native Atlantan, Chris hold a BFA from Baylor University and a MFA from Carnegie Mellon.

Stay up late and frolic with your co-innovators (in the morning tell your boss that the devil made you do it!).

For the 50^th consecutive year, PAF is hosting the Rosey Awards, a celebration of world-class, locally created work celebrating Oregon and Southwest Washington's Communication Arts. The Art Institute of Portland will be hosting the work in a month-long gallery exhibit. From November 1-6 we'll have a range of entries from the Rosey Awards.

From November 8-28, the award-winning work will be featured exclusively, and will be announced at the Awards event, November 7, 2007. The types of advertising displayed include print, broadcast and interactive advertising, direct response, company literature and sales material.
