Conceived and directed by Linda Austin, circus me around is inspired by the zings of pleasure and pricklings of curiosity aroused by fleeting, partial views of activities in the city landscape. For this multi-disciplinary work, architects Ean Eldred, Richard Garfield, John Kashiwabara and Peter Nylen create an environment assembled of skeletal scafflolding and a translucent shrink wrap skin, yielding various vantage points for the viewing of three simultaneous dances amid the clattering, dripping, clicking, whooping, and fluttering of Seth Nehil's spatialized sound score.
The mixed media sculpture and installation work of Diana Lang is an ongoing search for the irony of the temporary versus the infinite. Her current series, entitled Heavenly Bodies is a study on the formal implications of containing space and potentiality. The site specific installation created for Circus Me Around literally relies on the potential energy coursing through an unused room. Diana Lang was born in NYC, educated at Massachusetts College of Art in Sculpture and now calls Portland, Oregon her home.
