Oct 25: "A quick n' dirty reminder that SLIDELUCK POTSHOW is taking place in Portland at the Ace Hotel"

From Meldel (Cut and Paste) and Slideluck PotShow

 Greetings!

A quick n' dirty reminder that SLIDELUCK POTSHOW is taking place in Portland at the Ace Hotel.  This NYC-based arts event is having its inaugural slideshow potluck and we want you are invited!

The idea is that everyone brings something delicious to eat and something nice to drink and then once our bellies are full, we watch a fantastic slideshow of local and international artists.  Well, in this case, we are asking people not to bring alcohol (thanks OLCC.)  The New Old Lompoc Brewery has kindly offered to sponsor us and we cannot allow outside alcohol to be brought in.

This means we really want to see an emphasis on slammin', homecooked, and delectable food.  If the theme of the slideluck is Lust than the theme of the potluck should be Awesome.  Need ideas?  Check out the recipes on our website.

Sept 17: Indie rock photographer at the Ace Hotel

Pat Graham will be signing copies of his new photography book Silent Pictures at the Ace Hotel at 5:30 PM on Monday September 17th. The book features images of indie rockers on and off stage, mostly from the 1990s. The photos are both intimate and alive, capturing the intensity of the small venue show. The quality and quantity suggest Graham developed close relationships with his subjects which include Ian MacKaye and Isaac Brock. He should have an interesting tale or two to tell.

CNN: Formulaic Writing on Portland Continues? Oh YES!

PORTLAND, Oregon (CNN) — In the winter, the residents of this Pacific Northwest city hunker down for the gray rain that drills the city sidewalks for days on end. Locals drink loads of strong coffee, read books and take up knitting with zeal reserved in other parts of the nation for church going or clubbing…Read More (not bad actually, and it has my 'hood/park- Laurelhurst)

PS: CNN–I like that whole CNN PIPELINE idea you are running with, catchy name…sounds familiar though?

Ace Hotel: best described as "bunker chic"

I haven't stayed at the Ace Hotel yet, so I don't know how great it is. I've read at least five articles saying it's great. All I know is that they gave me free beer at their company picnic a couple weeks back, and that = BFF.

Plus, dude*, Stumptown is there…

This article from the Gourmet Food Editor seems to have a good rundown of the Ace:

A converted flophouse in what was, until the mid-1990s, a hard-knock enclave of drifters and grifters, the new Ace Hotel restores a much-needed edge to Portland's downtown. Renovations have preserved the best of the building's attributes–think original hardwood floors and claw-footed bathtubs–but the imposing 1912 edifice now houses 79 sleek, angular guestrooms best described as “bunker chic.” Ace touts itself as a “European-style hotel,” meaning its rooms range from youth-hostel-like bunk-bed shares (complete with bathroom and shower down the corridor) to corner suites.
