Vagabond Opera

European Cabaret! Vintage Americana! Balkan Belly Dance! Neo-Classical Opera! Old World Yiddish Theater! Welcome to Vagabond Opera. Bohemian Cabaret ensemble Vagabond Opera is described by the Washington Post as “A band of ceaseless charisma, boundless energy, impeccable musicianship and more than a little touch of both the naughty and exotic.” The group delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret for young and old. Vagabond Opera was created in 2002 by European-trained opera singer and composer Eric Stern. While still electrified by traditional opera, Stern created a new context for opera: Performance on a more intimate scale incorporating not only opera but elements of Weimar Cabaret, Arabic and Balkan forms, and the original music that springs from the ensemble’s fertile creative work.

Just People

Just People have been a staple of the North West music scene for nearly a decade. Hailed as the exuberant love children of Cat Stevens and Led Zeppelin, their sound has stretched from Soul, to Folk, to Rock with undertones of rampant psychedelia. Though ever diverse and always changing, Darcy Wallace of the Oregon Voice puts it best: “JUST PEOPLE are tough to pin down, but damn it, it just sounds so good.”

DJ Manoj

DJ Manoj arose from the dancefloor and will always be a dancer at heart. He is one of the pioneers in the west coast dance culture emerging circa 1991 both shaping and being shaped by this amazing adventure. Continually moved and changed by the power of music and the many transformational experiences he encounters while dancing and performing, he now dedicates his life to share with others the inspirations that he has received. Understanding and deeply rooted in the legacy of the the most formidable founding dj’s, that the power of dance music is unleashed through the ability to take dancers on a journey, he uses the contemporary technologies available with the vast genres of music to weave a limitless musical landscape.

Mr. Wu

Mr. Wu is a DJ, designer, promoter, screen printing ninja holding it down in Portland OR way of Vancouver B.C. His multi-genre DJ sets blend slow and sexy with future club-rockin’ bass music. Driven by creativity and community, Mr. Wu is constantly finding new ways to grow as an artist while staying connected and growing with his inspiring community of friends.

Skip vonKuske is a founding/featured member of Portland Cello Project and Vagabond Opera known for his virtuosic skills as a cello soloist/collaborator.”

Last year we had to leave early because of a family health emergency so we want to stay in our masks until the wee hours this time!

  6. Dani C November 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm #

To hide behind a mask, to be present with the music. Nothing else matters. Let go of the things that are stressing you our or making you anxious by slipping on a mask and dancing your feelings away all night. Surrounded by positive energy and bliss.

  29. LPB December 4, 2015 at 8:47 am #

I am coming out of the what can only be described as “A YEAR IN HELL”. During the past 365 days I… found myself “face to face” with the “Grimm Reaper”. Shortly after my employer of 15 years, gave me “walking papers”, with no more of an explanation than… “we’re going in a new direction” …as it turns out, my employer’s is more heartless than the Reaper himself! A car was totaled, a tree fell on the roof, a drain pipe flooded the basement and unemployment continues (I’ve been pretty good in this life, but must have been a real ass in a previous one to deserve this type of payback!). Things could be worse, by my side, I have an wife that is sexy as hell and we have put on a mask which is our smile each day. The ability to don new masks and escape reality, losing ourselves and inhibitions, in the music and energy of that the night offers is just what’s needed to launch us into a brand new day. Winning those tickets makes makes that new day possible!

My costume is ready! And so am I!

Either way, I hope you guys have a great time at this show – it looks like a ton of fun!
