The Junior League of Portland will hold its seventh annual JLP CAREs (Community Action and Revitalization Event) on October 24, 2015, a community service event to enhance the services and facilities of Portland community organizations that positively impact local families.
More than 190 Junior League members will volunteer at twelve area non-profit organizations across the Portland metro area for JLP CAREs, completing half-day projects and helping to supplement the needs of local organizations providing essential services to thousands of children and their families.
In addition to volunteering their time at the JLP CAREs project sites, Junior League of Portland members are raising sponsorship donations for their work performed the day of the event in support for the Junior League. These funds advance the Junior League’s mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community.
This year, the twelve Portland area organizations partnering with the Junior League are Albertina Kerr, Children’s Book Bank, CODA, Dress for Success, The Giving Closet, Native American Youth and Family Center, Neurotherapeutic Pediatric Therapies, New City Initiative, Peninsula Children’s Learning Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Saint Child, and The Shadow Project.
JLP CAREs participants will be helping with projects such as gardening and landscaping; painting community rooms; cooking and packaging freezer meals; leading a crockpot cooking workshop; assembling reading and educational kits; and cleaning toys and facilities at each of the community non-profits.
To celebrate the completion of the community service projects, the Junior League will hold an evening fundraising event, the second annual Harvest Soiree and Silent Auction, inviting the community and general public to support the organization and help raise funds that are critical to continuing its mission. The Harvest Soiree will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 6 – 10 p.m. at Ecotrust Portland. Tickets for the Harvest Soiree and Silent Auction are available at juniorleagueofportland.org
The Junior League of Portland operates several of its own programs (such as Between the Lines and Healthy Habits, Healthy Kids) and joins with community partners to positively impact the education, safety, and health of women, children, and families. With the help of individuals and companies, the Junior League is able to continue its mission to support these programs and its community partners.
