I simply adore Mead. And as we get close to the end of Summer I realize I’ve been so busy with volunteer work that I really haven’t had any relaxation time. Going to this Summer’s End Block Party would be a wonderful treat to me, especially since I won’t have to do the cooking, serving, dishes, event set-up or break-down.

  2. Peter Talbott August 19, 2015 at 4:41 pm #

I’ve always admired Margaret Mead, would wnjoy the opportunity to meet her

  3. Sandi August 19, 2015 at 4:44 pm #

This would be a fantastic end to a summer, and lamb skewers sound delicious!

  4. Gregory August 19, 2015 at 4:51 pm #

Considering the lengthy, warmer than usual and abundance of sunny days we have had this summer, I cannot imagine anything more refreshing, more exciting and enjoyable than an end of the summer block party! Definitely would enjoy that with a guest at my side and a cocktail in hand while we mingle and “chill” as we approach the coming of fall.

  5. Kelly Gappmayer August 19, 2015 at 8:43 pm #

What a wonderful way to celebrate another beautiful Portland summer. With one of Portland’s best restaurants, enjoying great food, great beverages, live music and some amazing people, I’m sure. Sounds like the perfect setting.

  6. Matthew Lee August 19, 2015 at 11:30 pm #

  12. Kristy Alberty August 20, 2015 at 2:19 pm #

You know if there’s ONE person (okay, two people….) who are gonna rock the house and love toasting summer with honey mead and lamb skewers, it’s me.

Not just because of my dazzling smile and outgoing nature. Summer this year, while admittedly feeling at times like it was a Death Valley weekend, has been great! Portland has been blessed with some great events, and the Hawthorne District is a great place to relax and chill with great food.

And people have to treasure the gifts that bees bring us all. I think we’re getting there, but the great impact these amazing insects have on our lives is scarcely understood.

I would love to sit underneath a sunhat and a sundress on the patio, toasting a fond farewell to Summer 2015! Have an awesome event!

  13. Aurelia August 20, 2015 at 2:29 pm #

You had me at lamb & honey! Please pick me!!

  20. Miranda August 20, 2015 at 3:08 pm #

Well, I need to stop by Bee Thinking anyway, so if I can show my support for them *and* try Castagna, that’d be swell, just swell.

Not “swell” like anaphylaxis, just like… you know… neat.

Shut the front door! This is a delightful event that you are presenting and mead is the bomb! Castagna brings back memories of summer, pregnant, a tremendous flat steak and having my mother here before she passed away to enjoy and a loving breeze flowing around the space. What an atmosphere…….My husband and I would only go their to the bar for date nights for the first year and no where else….good-times.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  41. Ruth Parvin August 20, 2015 at 10:25 pm #

twice I have been lucky enough to have good middle eastern food in situ. I taught a psychology course in Saudi Arabia. One of my students invited me to a dinner honoring the top employees of Aramco. I was one of two women sitting on a beautiful woven carpet on the floor with my feet tucked under me (because it is rude and disrespectful to point the soles of your shoes towards another person in that culture). A whole lamb was brought out along with many dipping dishes. Being a good southern girl, I tried to make conversation with my fellow carpet mates…and just could not get a conversation going. (I learned later that talking at the table is not part of that culture–especially if initiated by a woman in a room full of men) I, as an honored guest was offered one of the eyes…which I demurely turned down. That was the spring that I learned to love hummous and lamb, and yoghurt, tea with rose water and everything lemony. My other experience was on the island of Korfu where a man who owned a bunch of cabins took me racing up and down the mountains…it was election time and cars flew the colors of their party and men made aggressive signs with their fists and honked and yelled at each other. We went to night clubs and watched men dance to the tune of thrown plates, bought flowers from women in gowns walking around the restaurant, ate under ancient olive trees and prayed in a church for lost sailors. And it was the first time I got my face licked–actually the last time too. Oh my, how I run on–the thought of the lamb kabobs and the mead bring back the smells and flavors and tastes of that part of the world.

  51. Heather August 21, 2015 at 3:17 pm #

My husband wooed me with his homemade mead 20 years ago. He brought it to Austin, seduced me with it, then brought me back to the Northwest many years later with the promise of fountains that flow 24-hours a day with mead. August 30 is his birthday.

  52. Abby August 21, 2015 at 6:50 pm #

Awww what a perfect formula for date night. Limbering ones lips whilst wrapping them around lamb skewers, washing it down sipping on sweet honey mead, and honoring the treasure of nature through the poetry of the bee dance. The simple implication? These last days of summer summon reflection and affection for one another and all the creatures who help sweeten it.

Musetto also complained about the storyline, stating that the “sci-fi elements seem silly rather than suspenseful. Summer Wars is awesome in its detailed depiction of Oz, which floats in space with an array of satellites, and earthly cityscapes visited by calamities.
