Portland Breaks World Massage Record This Saturday + Music & Food | Common Ground Wellness Center Celebration

Well, Portland’s Voodoo Doughnuts already broke the record for largest box of doughnuts earlier this month, so why shouldn’t CGWC go for a massage record as well? I don’t think the Common Ground Wellness Center will have nearly as easy a time as Voodoo did with their record if the picture below from England is any indication. Either way, free event with good music, food, and potentially–a world record.

Maria Bamford of Comedians of Comedy @ Helium Comedy Club | Interview + Portland Show Info

By Nathalie Weinstein
Maria Bamford @ Helium Comedy ClubA woman of a hundred voices and equally as many facial expressions, Maria Bamford’s self-depreciating jokes are the stuff comedy dreams are made of. The 40-year old comedian has starred in the Fox series Sit Down, Shut Up and also earned a “Best of the Web” nod from Salon.com for her web series The Maria Bamford Show.

Bamford was lovely enough to do a quick and dirty email interview with PDX Pipeline, where she describes her love of Powell’s Books and how Portland audiences just get her. She performs Thursday, August 25 through Saturday, August 27 at Helium Comedy Club.

PDX Pipeline: You’ve spent a bit of time in Portland. What are your favorite things to see/do in the city?

Maria Bamford: I love to walk about- there’s the Stumptown Coffee situation and the corned beef place next to it and then the River and the POWELL’s!!!! Powell’s is awesome and I will be spending some time in there- for surely. Also, love to see the new local comics. Sleep in at the Crowne Plaza.

It’s that time again–Portland’s Last Thursday on Alberta is tomorrow evening, August 25th. This might be the last sunny LT event of 2011, so sure to be lots of people out there. As we reported a few months back, there is a new organization working with the city and businesses on Alberta to organize the event. They are the “Friends of Last Thursday” and have sent us these tips and info for event.

On Twitter? We will be using the @lastthursday account to relay information about the event as always. Also use the #lastthursday hashtag to talk about the event and we retweet many of those.
