The USA Today pre-season college football rankings came out last week and the Oregon Ducks are ranked #3! They have the biggest game of opening weekend against the #8 ranked LSU Tigers and weirdo Les Miles (video).

The game takes place on a “neutral” field in Texas (probably less than 2 hour drive from LSU and 20+ hour drive from Eugene) at the gigantic Cowboy Stadium on September 3rd at 5PM Pacific. Here is some info to get you ready plus places to watch in Portland.

From Yahoo Sports:

The next task for Oregon is to follow up the best season in school history.

After losing to Auburn, 22-19, in the BCS national championship game in January, the Ducks were picked as the favorites to win a third straight conference title by the Pac-12 media as they prepare to begin fall camp on Aug. 8. There are plenty of reasons for optimism with running back LaMichael James and quarterback Darron Thomas at the top of that list. Continue reading here…

Interview: You, Me and Miranda July | Miranda July On Her New Film ‘The Future’

Ex-Portlander Miranda July has a new movie out this weekend, ‘The Future’, which will begin showing at Fox Tower on Friday, August 12. New Pipeline contributing writer Quin Benzel was able to sit down with the writer/director/actress to talk about three-legged cats, being in your twenties, and YouTube.

By Quin Benzel
Miranda July The FutureIf the name Miranda July could only be well known in one or two places, it’s a good thing they happen to be the Sundance and Canne’s Film Festivals. Her 2005 indie debut, You and Me and Everyone We Know, took home four wins in France and the Special Jury Prize in Park City, Utah. Jump forward six years and you arrive at The Future (no pun intended), a mishmash movie of artistic ambitions, the encroaching dread of middle age, and all narrated by a mangy, three-footed cat.

Of her work, and like any artist, July says, “I feel compelled for reasons that are very personal.” She’s one of many time-consuming interests. In between film projects, she put on an art exhibit for the Venice Biennale, polished off a book of short stories, and even produced a stage performance, which was the inspiration for The Future.

Sure, an unavoidable compulsion is necessary for anyone artistically inclined, but for the two 30-somethings in The Future, Sophie and Jason (played by July and Hamish Linklater), their sense of creativity is brought on by the unnerving realization of life’s limitations. They adopt a cat Read the rest of this entry »

Master Pancake Theater’s beer-soaked shows feature raucous film commentary (in the style of MST3K) that Entertainment Weekly calls “a glorious pairing of turkey movies with live comedy.” They’ve been selling out Austin’s legendary Alamo Drafthouse for years with mockings of favorites like JURASSIC PARK, TWILIGHT and THE MATRIX. Now they’re headed to Portland for the first time with a skewering of 1985′s classic angstfest THE BREAKFAST CLUB!

Directed by ’80s teen-meister John Hughes, THE BREAKFAST CLUB features pouty-lipped fireball Molly Ringwald and fellow brat-packers Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy as a quintet of misfits trapped together in detention for one fateful afternoon. While there, these five Jungian archetypes of high school life (the geek, the jock, the princess, the thug and the Cure fan) learn that they are not in fact so very different Read the rest of this entry »
