Coming off a historic home win over league leaders Los Angeles, the Portland Timbers need to continue their winning ways in San Jose to have any shot at a playoff berth. The Timbers have only one road win so far since joining Major League Soccer, and will be looking to add their second in California tonight. Brimming with confidence after their upset win, the Timbers certainly will have belief in themselves. The Timbers will be lacking an important player in central midfielder Diego Chara who will miss the game due to yellow card accumulation.

With Captain Jack Jewsbury injured and his inclusion a game-time decision it may be up to John Spencer to do some creative reshaping of the midfield to preserve the rapid attack that the Timbers used to dominate play against the Galaxy.
