Preview: Portland Timbers vs Toronto FC | Struggling Timbers Try To Jump Start Playoff Push

By Will Conwell
GAME 19: Portland Timbers (6W-10L-3T) vs Toronto FC (3W-11L-9T)
Saturday, July 30, 8:00 p.m. ROOT
Previous match-up(s): 3/26/11 2-0 Timbers Loss @ Toronto

The Portland Timbers and Toronto FC are two teams who have struggled to come together and play cohesively. The Timbers, in their first year in MLS, were always expected to need time to come together as a team while Toronto are in the middle of their sixth head coach in five years and as many rebuilding efforts. Both have shown signs of being dangerous, capable teams in recent weeks, but neither have seen a truly complete game in league play.

The Timbers are coming off a 2-0 win over Argentine giants Club Athletico Independiente that saw their reserves put forth a dominant first half and hold off the South Americans for the remainder of the game, something the Timbers have struggled to do this season. Toronto also managed a 2-1 win in the CONCACAF Champions league at home against Real Esteli F.C. of Nicaragua.

The Timbers have continued to stick with their 4-5-1 formation recently but have seen success in friendlies playing in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, particularly in strong first half efforts against West Brom and Independiente. As the Timbers need to start winning games again it will be interesting to see what formation Coach Spencer brings to the pitch. One possible change would be Read the rest of this entry »

Contemporary-primitive – of the present, searching for understanding through introspection, a basic wisdom of things based on connection to
ones ideas ideals and dreams rather then institutional, or technological knowledge based on intracacies. Abstract Narrative – a visual narrative derived from the interpritation of creations made up of intuative actions manifesting as abstract shapes, forms and emotions. a process without preconcieved plans just a thought and feeling following one after the other to become an idea.. changing directions as forms emerge to find an idea free from judgement, something true in and of itself. from this a world of personal myth, iconography, symbols and beings are created.
