Portland Pride 2011 – Make It Happen

This year’s Pride festival honors activists everywhere who have worked to make changes to improve the lives of others. A reminder that Pride festivals likewise are the result of hundreds of volunteers and community organizers who work to make the event happen every year. Executive Board member Mark Santillo reminds us that, “Each of us has the power to effect change in our own lives and to make a difference in the lives of others. This year’s theme challenges our community to make that critical decision to act.”

By decree Gov. Kitzhauber, June is Pride Month here in Portland and Pride activities have already begun to kick off around Portland. There are many days of great community events leading up to the weekend-long festival in Tom McCall Waterfront Park June 18th and 19th and the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 19th at 11:30AM. Thanks to continued, generous support from PGE this will be the fourth carbon-neutral parade.

Check out any of these great parties and celebrate Pride all month long! Read the rest of this entry »

The Timbers are coming off two losses to beatable teams going into their rematch against the Colorado Rapids. The Timbers have looked questionable all season long despite managing five home wins. It will take teamwork and effort to take the Timbers to the level at which they can win games comfortably, rather than relying on luck and circumstance to see them through. The Timbers certainly have the players to win, but they have been held back by mental lapses.

The Rapids have endured struggles of their own and, after starting the first few games of the season looking like champions, have Read the rest of this entry »
