Most of the Oregon State Hospital was demolished recently for a new building. But at Portland Center Stage, the hospital’s inmates are alive and well.
Based on a Ken Kesey’s novel, ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest’ explores the inhabitants of an Oregon mental ward and how they are affected by the institutional treatments they receive there. Narrated by Chief Bromden, a Native American pretending to be a deaf mute, the story begins when a rebellious convict, Randle McMurphy, enters the ward and attempts to shake things up.
