Big Sip Oregon is an event for anyone who is interested in finding the best wine at great values. You'll be able to talk directly with over 30 winery operators and other leaders in the industry as you navigate a floor filled with delicious wines. Admission includes 15 drink tickets and access to the cheese bar. Sample and taste over 100 different wines and learn the best way to buy, savor and save your wine from industry experts.

Each winery has hand picked wines that they feel are exceptional wine buys – ones you likely won't find in stores or wine shops, but ones that they believe are so competitively priced you won't be able to resist the value.

There will be Live music by Portland's Piano Man, Jim Fischer, near the “food court”, which will act as a place to sit, relax and chat with friends! Educational sessions on topics such as wine traits, shelf life and care will also be available.

Called reggae’s “Mellow Canary” by virtue of his strong, pure vocal style, he’s renowned as the first original singer of the dancehall era. Barrington developed his signature riff by experimenting with different vocalizations and bouncing the sounds off the surrounding hills.

A driving force in reggae music, Levy remains the perennial favorite of audiences in Jamaica – and throughout the world. Always a solid voice and a uniquely expressive song style, Barrington is consistently at the forefront of the music scene, and has become the most requested vocalist in reggae music history. In the late 1980′s, Barrington Levy began working with veteran producer Jah Screw, and together they created some of reggae’s most memorable recordings. There was the classic album of Barrington’s greatest hits dubbed Broader Than Broadway, which is one of the best reggae collections ever created.

After dropping 2 straight home games, the Blazers are playing the Houston Rockets tonight at the Rose Garden.

According to John Hollinger's playoff predictor, the Houston Rockets are going to finish the season in the 10th spot with a record of 42-40. However, the Rockets have been very hot recently, winning 6 of their last 7 games. Factor in the last two Blazer losses and the Rockets coming into the Rose Garden tonight with some swagger, I expect tonight's game to be a dog fight.

After getting murdered on the glass Sunday night against the Atlanta Hawks, the Blazers went out and gave big man Jarron Collins Read the rest of this entry »

2011 SE Portland Art Walk This Weekend: Hawthorne & Division | Over 200 Artists

There will be a SE Portland Art Walk this weekend. Most of it takes place between Hawthorne-Division and SE 12th — SE 39th. You can see a descriptive map of all participants here.

Related: Our Portland Monthly EVENTS LIST

From the event website:
Over 200 artists, many in “native environments” will be showing their works and meeting art lovers over the first weekend of March.

What a wonderful way to spend a day…wandering around Southeast Portland, experiencing sculpture, painting, jewelry, pottery, photography, encaustic, print-making, textile…almost every conceivable medium for expression. The 2010 event grossed over $80,000 for artists!

And much of these will be in the homes and studios of the artists themselves, allowing you to get to know our local artists. Their art will be for sale, of course–often at reduced prices. So this is a fantastic opportunity to add to–or begin!–your art collection.

The event is free. Maps will be available at local merchants and can be downloaded from the website.
