October 16 will surely be one of the finest of music at Mt. Tabor Theater in recent memory. Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey are as close to pop stars in the jazz world as you can get. The Oklahoma based quartet released “Stay Gold” this summer to overwhelming fanfare and critical acclaim. The Jazz Times says, “JFJO burns with a quiet intensity rather than dramatically explodes.

You can hear the band's power and inventiveness creatively eroding structure, and the tension produced from that is exhilarating. If JFJO isn't moving jazz forward, it is shifting its center of gravity interestingly askew,” and The Village Voice describes JFJO as “….intensely improvisatory head-fuckery, which embraces Beatles covers, free jazz and just about everything in between.”

Over the past 16 years JFJO has become one of the foremost contemporary jazz bands in the world. Read the rest of this entry »
