Things I'm currently jocking…

Free ish… We have tix here and will be giving away some on twitter (add @leighfeldman3) to win tickets to Mario (tonight), Rage-A-Car w/ Noah D & The Bassist (fri), FREE Entry for 4 to the open bar party at Crown Room (sat), 3 passes to the Oaks Park Halloween Bazaar (sun) and 2 tickets to WWE Smackdown at the Rose Garden on Tues! Wanna win any of them? Forward this email to a friend, have them write us asking to join the group and we'll enter you both in a drawing to win — or you can find us on facebook at facebook.com/LifeisaPartyFB to get tickets, music and info on weekly events.

Free music ish… The bass heavy/future music scene in Portland is getting bigger each week and local dj/producer Tyler Tastemaker is one of the folks at the front of it. He recently dropped a heater of a mixtape called ‘Praying For An Indian Summer.' I highly recommend it for anyone into a wide variety of genres, including hip hop, funk, glitch, soul, dubstep and countless others. Download it here: http://bit.ly/9uuCrD and come see him start things off at the open bar party on Saturday!

Awesome ish… This Sat Oct. 9th is Second Saturday, which means that LifeisaParty throws a party and we pay for the first hour of your drinks! It also happens to be the same night as the PDX Edition of the famous NYC event known as BLAP, where producers, mc's and music makers gather to showcase their stuff. Come join us Saturday at the Crown Room, where you'll get an hour of free drinks, music from Sabzi of the Blue Scholars, Illmind (who has worked with Redman, De La Soul, Eminem and tons more), YRB magazine, music supervisors from Madison Square Garden and a chance to hear some music from some of the best in the NW!

This list is growing by leaps and bounds. Turn to the person next to you and see if they are reading the same email. If not, forward it to them and tell them to join the community.

Life is a party, everyone is just waiting to be invited.
See you all out and about! Leigh Feldman

MERRICK MONROE'S “THE URBAN ORCHESTRA”
ENTICES VIEWER TO CREATE A STORY
Photographer Merrick Monroe invites us to catch the pause between the notes of life in Portland with her show “The Urban Orchestra”. The images, removed from the context of the time and place in which they were captured, invite the viewer to create their own narrative to explain the why or how that scene came to be. The show was funded entirely via a Kickstarter project and is the first gallery presentation of Merrick's work. “The Urban Orchestra” opens First Thursday, October 7 from 6-10pm, and runs through the month of October.

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio is located in Old Town Chinatown at the Everett Station Lofts, 328 NW Broadway #113. Open for regular gallery hours Thursdays (3pm-7pm) and Saturdays (11am-5pm) or by appointment. The gallery showcases local artists who explore the concept of sequential art, which is loosely defined as using consecutive images to tell a story. Curated by Kaebel JK Hashitani and Merrick Monroe.

So many storylines, so little time for the Portland Timbers, as they kick off this year's USSF Division 2 playoffs. Let's break it down.

Who: The Timbers will face off in a two-game series against the Vancouver Whitecaps, one of the Rose City club's biggest rivals.  The Whitecaps eliminated the Timbers from last year's playoffs and are set to make the jump to Major League Soccer along with the Timbers next season.

The Timbers hold the advantage this season: Portland has won 3 times, lost once and drawn 3 times against Vancouver in 2010. The last meeting between the teams came on Oct. 2nd, when they drew 2-2.

When: The two-game series will be a standard home-and-home series, meaning each team will host the other once.  The Timbers will travel to Vancouver Thursday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff and then the teams will come back to Portland to Read the rest of this entry »
