Saturday: Portland's Pretend To Be a Time Traveler Day + Pictures & Review

Portland's 2010 “Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day” is back this Saturday. Drunken Rampage (organizer) has sent a very large amount of instructions below. To fully understand, you might want to ready Bethany Moore's review from last year.

Update 9/25: They released a Time Traveler Google Map.

From Bethany Moore:
Portland Time Traveler Day + PicturesReview: 2009 Portland Time Traveler Day + Pictures

It was a strange September evening in Portland on Saturday the 12th, just like any other. I found myself being led on tour around the neighborhoods of NW with a group of 25 other costumed folks, as our tour guide, Dave of DrunkenRampage.com, gave absurd and hilarious explanations about random items such as trash cans and fire hydrants, and often tying them to chemical warfare, communism, and Rush Limbaugh.

Those who attended were dressed according to some fashion in the past, or in the dystopian future. Continue reading plus pictures here on Pipeline

The dance this year is October 23rd, Saturday, at 4 pm. The date and time are chosen by the folks in Toronto who started Thrill the World and kick it into gear every autumn. We haven’t finalized our dance location yet – we’ll let you know as soon as we do! We will have room for as many people who want to dance.

Things I'm currently jocking…

Free ish… We have tix here and will be giving away some on twitter (add @leighfeldman3) to win tickets to Blu w/ Live Band (tonight), Live From '85 Hip Hop Show (fri), Misfits vs Dead Kennedy's (sat), Resurgence Warehouse Party (sat) and a booth to MASSIVE for next Saturday the 25th! Free music ish… NW Hip Hop artist Luck One makes incredible music. Need proof? Check this outtake from his new album True Theory. Yes, outtake! For some reason Luck One didn't think this Dam-Funk sounding/West Coast Boogie/filter heavy/horn-laden track was good enough for the album. I certainly do. Check it here and get ready, because you will certainly be hearing Luck One's name for a long time in the hip hop world – http://bit.ly/b2Qmsq

Awesome Ish… Our city is growing and expanding like crazy! This weekend 4 new spots open up in PDX. Star Bar on SE 6th & Morrison has their launch party this evening with dj's and cheap drinks, Bohemia (warehouse venue — more info below), Hall of Records (record store and cafe) and Element Lounge on SW 12th & Morrison, who are having a HUGE Grand Opening celebration on Saturday evening with specialty martini's, dj's, food and giveaways. Definitely check out and support the new places opening in our city!

Future Awesome ish … MASSIVE. It's one week away. Portland's craziest party takes place every Last Saturday of the month at the Crown Room, which means you now have a little over a week to pick out an outfit, prepare yourself for the crazy and get ready for this guy – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQaPLWlqUSQ

Life is a party, everyone is just waiting to be invited.
See you all out and about! Leigh Feldman

PICA's TBA Festival Day Eight (September 16): Feminists Films, John Jasperse, Surf Punks

The second weekend of  PICA's TBA Festival rolls on. If you are not on PICA's email list, here is the info sent out earlier today.

From PICA TBA email:

TBA DAY EIGHT: FEMINIST FILMS, JOHN JASPERSE, SURF PUNKS

A little rain never slowed down a Portland festival! Last night, you were rocked by In the Solitude and moved to tearful laughter by Nature Theater. Our closing weekend moves into full swing today with triple-showings of Emily Johnson's The Thank-you Bar, and the first night of John Jasperse Company.

4:30 PM – The Wooster Group: THERE IS STILL TIME..BROTHER at PCPA Brunish Hall

Revisit The Wooster Group's elliptical narratives and in-the-round theatrics. This boundary-breaking piece layers film clips, war stories, night-vision porn tapes, Rosie O'Donnell's blog, and some of the most marvelous technical effects you've ever seen. It demands a second viewing.

6:30 PM – HARD EDGE, HARD WORK at Northwest Film Center Whitsell Auditorium
8:30 PM – John Jasperse: Truth, Revised Histories, Wishful Thinking, and Flat Out Lies at Lincoln Hall

Stephanie Snyder, curator of Reed College's Cooley Gallery will present the last screening of a very special collection of feminist film and video works that exist at the boundaries of abstraction. Then, John Jasperse Company debuts its PICA-commissioned Truth… on the Portland stage–it's a bold, sexy, funny, and smart look at illusion and the elusive grasp for meaning in art.

10:30 PM – Guantanamo Baywatch at THE WORKS at Washington High School

The papier-mâché has been flying for the last two months on the third floor of WHS, as Guatanamo Baywatch has developed their TBA:10 show. Expect sludgy surf-tunes, bodacious babes, and dinosaurs. The trio ups the ante by sharing the stage with Oakland-based doo-wop rockers Shannon and the Clams.
