PDX Bridge Festival organizers will combine three of their favorite things in one kick-off event at Olympic Mills Commerce Center: ART + MUSIC + PERFORMANCE!  Join PDX Bridge Festival and curatorial art partner Portland City Art, as they begin two weeks of art, music, culture, and fun celebrating the bridges that connect us all.

In keeping with the theme of bridging cultures, the opening event of PDX Bridge Festival will showcase the 2-D and 3-D art works of over 50 Portlanders, feature performance by a number of established and newcomer troupes, and involve our elected officials in sanctioning the fun and freaky side of our creative city! From massive sculpture to individual performance, this event—co-produced with Portland City Art—sets the tone for the weeks to come. The event is free and open to the public.

Portland's Keepin' It Weird this Sunday with the Annual Mondo Croquet World Championships and Mad Hatter Picnic. I asked organizer Stephen Peters a few questions about it and the answers are below. Dog Days of Summer

The hottest days of the year are just around the corner. Here at the Market we have just the thing for you and your pet.  From fountains to food and from treats to treasures, the Portland Saturday Market has what you are looking for to stay cool (and hip).

Fountains…

For the four-legged friend in your life, we have two fountains from which to choose (plus plush green grass in Waterfront Park for chasing any number of toys). The Skidmore Fountain is Portland's oldest public work of art and is a wonderful place for your pup to get a drink of water. We also have the Bill Naito Legacy fountain in Waterfront Park. As Portland's newest water feature, this is a wonderful place for you and your hound to splash up a storm.  Since this fountain is chlorinated please remember this is not the water for your dog to drink.

Food…

BBQ DOGS…One can't leave the Market without sampling something from our international food court. My Brother's Famous BBQ has been serving up the best in BBQ since 1979. Read the rest of this entry »

$11.50 Buy

What's Bassekou Kouyate, a West African ngoni virtuoso, doing on Sub Pop, the Seattle record label that brought you Nirvana and Soundgarden? Who knows, but we're glad he'll be spending some time here in the Northwest. Kouyate's been playing the ngoni, a lute-like ancestor of the banjo, since he was a kid in his native Mali. His dazzling musicianship has won him fans the world over — including the likes of Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Bono.
