Newfoundland's Great Big Sea combine the traditional Celtic folk melodies of their homeland with hard-driving rock to create a sound The New York Times has called “as evocative of Newfoundland as were the Beach Boys of California.”

Description: Hard to tell but there are these canvas sails attached all over the bridge, and supposedly a light display was supposed to be turned on at 10pm last night. My wife and I were scratching our heads trying to figure out if there were any lights at all. Turns out there were, but they weren't very dramatic.

I was up on the bridge waiting for this event to take place. The event description stated it would start at 9:30, but it actually happened about 45 minutes later. There were obviously some problems as there was way too much ambient light to really see the lights projected on the tarps. The problem is explained below in the comments.

About Wolf Parade
EXPO 86! OMFG!

What is it?! What ISN'T it?

It's two (2) things!

It's the name of Wolf Parade's third LP, out June 29, 2010.

And it's the catchy name of the World's Fair held in Vancouver, summer of 1986, where five young boys first became friends, just outside the Cars of the Future exhibit, and made a SECRET PACT (whoa!) to meet up in the early 2000s (wha?)-somewhere cool, like Africa or even the moon by then–to form a rock band! ROCK BAND! With guitars and guitar solos and synthesizers! They would call it Wolf Parade! What a bodacious name!

Portland's Music Millennium has many great free shows, but tomorrow night's might be the best of the year so far. It's going to be packed for sure, but I've heard that if you buy the Menomena album beforehand you have a guaranteed seat.

Menomena formed in late 2000, when Brent Knopf graduated from Dartmouth College and returned to Portland to collaborate with Justin Harris and Danny Seim. They played their first show in July 2001, at The Meow Meow, a now-defunct all ages venue in Portland.

The band's name was chosen for "the way it rolls off the tongue, sexually, or something" and has no specific meaning, although it is often assumed to refer to the Piero Umiliani song "Mah Nà Mah Nà", a staple of The Muppet Show. A recent audioclip from SpotDJ had Brent stating that the band name was a contraction of the words "Men" and "Phenomena". This is most likely a joke.

Anyone have a suggestion of a larger venue for Trek In The Park?

It's going to be pretty hot out there today and tomorrow for those in Trek outfits. As you can see from these pictures from last weekend, Trek in Park is quite popular and crowded. If you want to be guaranteed of hearing all the dialogue, you need to get there early to have a close seat.
