Great pic by David. Only two days until a possibly sunny (not rainy!) Last Thursday on Alberta Street. If there is even a hint of sun, it will surely be quite large and likely full of bikes due to Pedalpalooza even though there is not an official Last Thursday ride.

Thursday: Mega Michael Jackson Tribute Party at Voicebox Karaoke

From our partners @ Voicebox:

Mega Michael Jackson Tribute Party at Voicebox!

Remember the time…

The King is Dead! Long Live the King! Of Pop, that is. We here at Voicebox can hardly believe it's already been a year since we lost Michael Jackson, but we're not ready to say goodbye yet. We're throwing an all out mega MJ karaoke bash on June 24 to commemorate his life, work and legacy. Our catalog contains over 75 of Michael's solo hits, duets, and Jackson 5 songs — or mix it up from the rest of our 60,000+ song collection. Just $10 gives you access to all six of our private suites in this open door party. Pay tribute by wearing anything MJ that night, and the price is ONLY $5 to sing all night! Meet other fans, reminisce about the way his music affected you, and just celebrate.

Voicebox is also offering specials on anything with “Bubbles!” Happy Hour prices on beer all night, plus discounted prices on sparkling wine, Sake2Me's and Hou Hou Shu. If you've been thinking about trying some specialty sake, now is the time!

The party begins at 4 PM, Thursday, June 24, and goes until 11. Minors are welcome until 7PM.

Saturday: Karaoke Event & YWCA Benefit @ Wieden + Kennedy

Rock Out For A Great Cause

On June 26, 2010, the YWCA of Portland's Leadership Board will welcome the next generation of leaders to a night of karaoke, cocktails and conversations at Portland's Wieden + Kennedy for the second annual Offkey event. The support this event has received from local vendors is spectacular. Free food, cheap drinks, great singing and music provided by Sean Bailey, voted King of the KJs by The Portland Mercury.

When: Saturday, June 26, 2010. Doors open at 8 p.m.
"American Idol" style karaoke contest begins at 9 p.m.

Tonight: Benefit For Colin @ Aalto Lounge

Pipeline friend and Aalto bartender Colin Brogan (red shirt) needs an expensive surgery (health care bill?), and having a benefit at the Aalot Lounge tonight. Considering he's one SE's favorite bartenders and been at Aalto forever, there should be a great crowd down there.

Message from Colin:
Aalto lounge, Portland, OregonHello Friends!

As many of you already know, I injured my back eight months ago doing something. Not really sure what. Maybe playing soccer, maybe carrying a keg, maybe something else. As a result of this injury, I've been experiencing severe sciatic nerve pain in my left leg for over four months now, and the only way it's ever going to get better is with an expensive surgery called a microdiscectomy, which I'm having done later this month.

In order to help pay for this life-enhancing surgery I will be hosting a party this coming Monday night at the Aalto Lounge on Belmont, where I'll be pouring you cheap drinks ($3 old crow all night!),  DJ spiltpills will be rocking you, and I'll be graciously accepting donations as well as receiving some portion of the night's sales.

So please come out and enjoy yourself, there will be so many good people in the room that it's sure to be a great time. Looking forward to seeing you there. And thanks!

Colin

Portland Pictures: World Naked Bike Ride | 13,000 People!

———————–

2011 Portland Naked Bike Ride Updates:

———————–

The 2010 Portland chapter of the World Naked Bike Ride seems to be the largest of them all, even though the initial estimate of 13,000 people seems be disputed (Jason Maus has changed to 11,000-13,000 here).

Here are several pictures from the Portland Naked ride that have been added to our Flickr group.

$25 advance, $30 day of show
All ages welcome
Tickets on sale now!

Jakob Dylan reaches new majestic heights with his voice and songwriting in “Women and Country,” the follow up to his 2008 debut solo album “Seeing Things.” Striking and ripe with sublime beauty, “Women and Country,” was produced by the legendary T. Bone Burnett and features the stirringly rich vocals of Neko Case and Kelly Hogan.

Standout tracks include the opener “Nothin' But The Whole Wide World,” which sets the tone of the album, the pensive ballad “Down on Our Own Shield” and “Everybody's Hurting,” which showcases Jakob and Neko's moving harmonies.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles, CA, and is the full realization of a journey Dylan began on “Seeing Things,” which harkens back to the timeless artistry of American roots music and the country blues masters. The singer-songwriter has previously released five albums as the frontman of platinum-selling, Grammy-winning band The Wallflowers.
