First Place Heartless Heathers take on Fourth Place Guns N Rollers

RCR Season 5 Semifinal 1 at the Hangar at Oaks Park

This is roller derby up close and personal! The ice cold Heartless Heathers will face off against the head-bangin' GunsNRollers at the Hangar at Oaks Park.

The stakes are high in this all-or-nothing bout with the winner going to the Championship!  This 2010 season has been filled with all the hard-hitting roller derby action fans have come to expect from Portland's toughest athletes. Most home league games are played at the Hangar at Oaks Park, where RCR fans enjoy in-your-face skating!

Parking will be free for this event! Please note, sitting alongside the track puts you within feet of the action and places you at higher risk of involvement in a skater collision. Arrive early enough to make seating arrangements you are comfortable with.

Tickets are $14.00 for General Admission. Doors open at 7pm, bout starts at 8pm.

50+ Portland First Thursday Events | June 2010

First Thursday @ Everett Station Lofts, Portland, OregonPortland's monthly First Thursday event is tomorrow  and it looks like we will have good weather (60 & sunny…really…). There are over 50 (probably 100) galleries having openings this month.

We have a very large list below thanks to Sequential Art Gallery (328 NW Broadway) & Rich Vail Mackin. They compile an email called the  "[h]IT LIST" of events every month. You can join it by emailing them @ sequentialart @ gmail dot com. We have reproduced much of it below with permission.

From Pipeline:

This month at Sequential Art Gallery (328 NW Broadway #113):
THE WHALES ARE MY CLIENTS:
SKYLAAR AMANN CONSTRUCTS WORLDS IN WHICH THE WHALES WIN

Continuing to bring attention to the urgent need for nature conservation is artist Skylaar Amann, showing throughout June at Sequential Art Gallery. As the International Whaling Commission discusses lifting the ban on commercial whaling, Skylaar's show of comics, poems, and handbound books–and a pod of soft-sculpture whales moving throughout the room–constructs worlds in which the whales win. Her installation uses elements of humor, storytelling, and nostalgia to invite the viewer into the simultaneous role of biologist, archaeologist, and activist.

“The Whales Are My Clients” opens First Thursday, June 3, from 6-10pm, and shows throughout June.

If you aren't able to attend our opening reception, we will be livestreaming all night! You can check out the live video feed at ustream.tv/channel/sequential-art-gallery-studio

Rally: Bring Lebron James To Portland Trail Blazers

Do I think there is a chance Lebron James would come to the Portland Trail Blazers in the prime of his career? No. Do I think the Trail Blazers are pursuing Lebron James? No.

Is there a rally to bring Lebron James to Portland? Apparently so. 365 confirmed guests as of noon, June 2.

From Facebook Event:
Lebron has only one team on his mind this offseason: the Portland Trailblazers. New York sucks, so does New Jersey, Cleveland has Anderson Varejao, Chicago has Joakim Noah, the Clippers' only fan is Billy Crystal, and Lebron isn't in Wade's Fave Five. Therefore it only makes sense that Lebron would come to Portland to B Roy's wingman.

Come to downtown Portland at Pioneer square on June 20th to rally for LeBron like we rallied for Oden.

7:00pm – 10:00pm
