You might want to start planning your weekend immediately because (some of) the Goonies are having their 25th anniversary in Astoria this Weekend. Corey Feldman is going to be there and he apparently has a Pink Floyd type band that will be playing…can't miss that.

This Weekend: QDoc @ Clinton Street Theater | Only Queer Documentary Film Festival In The US

June is Pride Month and Portland's Fourth Annual Queer Documentary Film festival returns this Thursday to Clinton Street Theater.

Related: Our Portland Events List

From PLGFF Press Release
QDoc, the only queer documentary film festival in the US, begins June 3 and runs through June 6 at the Clinton Street Theater. This is the festival's fourth year of bringing queer documentaries to Portland.

PLGFF recommends the film William S. Burroughs: A Man Within which screens Saturday, June 5 at 6:00 pm. Burroughs, along with the poet Allen Ginsberg, was a dominate voice in American beat literature-one of the most innovative and influential literary periods in American history.

The film features previously unseen footage of Burroughs and interviews with John Waters, Laurie Anderson, Gus Van Sant, David Cronenberg, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and many others. Burroughs was one of the first to cross the dangerous boundaries of queer and drug culture in the 1950s, and write about his experiences. Eventually he was hailed the godfather of the beat generation and influenced artists for generations to come.

Tomorrow: Volunteer For Portland's North American Organic Brewers Festival & Get Free Beer

Portland's North American Organic Brewers Festival is only a month away, which is pretty awesome considering it feels like we are not even close to beer festival weather right now.

The easiest way to get a free beer is to volunteer. There is a party tomorrow at Roots Brewery where you can sign up.

On Twitter? Check out @pdxbeer and #pdxbeer hashtag.

Reminder: We give out free tickets to our Portland Facebook Group including to many of the top events in Portland. Join it if you like free stuff.

From Press Release:
More than 15,000 beer lovers will converge upon Portland this summer to enjoy the sixth annual North American Organic Brewers Festival – the event will take place June 25 through 27 at Overlook Park.

We're throwing a party at Roots Organic Brewing, 1520 SE 7th Ave, to recruit more volunteers for this year's fest.  We're inviting beer lovers to stop by Roots next Friday, May 28 from 5 to 9 pm.

We'll have Happy Hour beers, complimentary snacks, plus 4 tokens for anyone who signs up to be a volunteer for this year's event.  And to be fair to those who have already signed up, they just need to give us their info – we'll check the database, and they'll get 4 tokens, too!

All available shifts and volunteer guidelines are on the festival website at www.naobf.org.

From our partners at Goodfoot Lounge

With an arsenal of banjos, guitars, mandolin, fiddle, pedal steel, upright bass, and thundering drums, RPS's sound is a wholesome mishmash of creek mud, rusty nails and your mom's cookin'. It's sincere, straight-forward and sexy as ****, effortlessly combining such disparate musical styles as rock, country, bluegrass, and punk to create an incomprehensibly smooth and accessible sound for true believers and skeptics alike.

With wisdom beyond their years, they fearlessly Read the rest of this entry »

Chris Cutz (Sleeping Giant / San Diego): Growing up grooving to all the greats of 70s, 80s and 90s music, Chris turned to DJ-ing as a way to pay homage to the genre of music that he loves so much: Hip Hop. Fast forward to the present, he's now a musical force to be recognized and reckoned with. When he's on the clock his sets flow effortlessly between Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, House and Electro and the dance floor is packed until the house lights switch on.

For 8 years Chris Cutz has been one of San Diego's most sought after DJs. He's the go-to guy for nearly every celebrity party that's come into America's Finest City and has entertained big names like: Beyonce, Kanye West, John Legend, Read the rest of this entry »
