7 Reasons You Should Check Out Portland's 7th Annual Stumptown Comics Fest This Weekend

Posted by Kimberly Gehl

Portland's seventh annual Stumptown Comics Fest takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Lloyd Center Doubltree Hotel. Here are seven reasons why you should attend:

Portland's 7th Annual Stumptown Comics Fest 1. April is Comic Book Month! – What better way to celebrate Portland's 3rd Official Comic Book Month than to schmooze with some of the city and nation's most talented illustrators and storytellers?

2. Exhibitors - Be sure to bring extra cash to the SCF because you will not be able check out the exhibitors booths without buying [or really, really wanting to] comics and assorted memorabilia. Don't fret; this is a good thing! Talking to the exhibitors is one of the best features of the event because it allows you to meet the masterminds behind your favorite comics, to get a glimpse of/purchase their other work, and, maybe – if you're really nice – to get the scoop on their upcoming projects. Strolling through the rows of exhibitors, chances are also good that you will meet some really awesome people as well as find some new comics (and artists) to adore.

Find a full list of the exhibitors here (sortable by name or table!) and check out the map/floorplan here.

3. Panels - Become a comic book industry expert by learning such things as the history behind some of your favorite comics (old and new), getting a background in Read the rest of this entry »

Just In: Pavement Portland Show Announced | McMenamins Edgefield

We knew Pavement was coming for a while now, just not where and when (wait, they did). We got the press release in about 5 minutes ago…so

From Press Release:

Reunited PAVEMENT to play
McMenamins Historic Edgefield this September

www.edgefieldconcerts.com

Reunited and it feels so good!  It's been over a decade since Pavement last traipsed through the streets of the world playing their highly influential brand of slacker rock.  The band announced late last year they were reuniting for what was supposed to be just a series of four shows in New York this summer.  Demand being what it was, they decided to soldier on and make a year out of it by touring all the corners, headlining the big festivals (including a sold out appearance at this years Sasquatch festival), and playing a mighty homecoming gig, well at least for Stephen Malkmus it's a homecoming, at McMenamins Edgefield this September.  Welcome ‘em back in style and get those tickets before they are gone, gone, gone.

Just Another Music Monday: Spesus Christ

Posted by Mike Harper

Swinging between half-hyperventilating strain and straightforward singspeaking in a flurry of echoing ions bouncing off synthesizers that ring creepily and church-organesque, Spesus Christ sing the dance-along-clap-along hymns of Portland's musical youth.  Drum machine battles guitar with building blocks made from electronic notes peppering the reverberation-clouded scene. EP2 (the second wonderful side to Adventures!

With Might's latest release on Apes Tapes), starts with the kinetic "I Love You/U Luv Me 2" and rounds out with the drawn out teardrop "Dear Mom". Pick up EP2 here and check out Spesus in all their glory at a church on April 24!
