Meetin Portland (MiPL) 6th Anniversary Party This Friday

This Friday is Meetin Portland's 6th Anniversary party. This will be a huge party (214 people have RSVPed on the site and many more will likely show as over 1100 have viewed it). I went to several Meetin Portland (otherwise known as MiPL) events in 2005. The organizers were/are very nice people and these parties always have a good turnout. They have grown significantly since those days and I would not be surprised if 500+ people showed up to mingle, meet, and all that other stuff people do at these type of things.

From Meetin website:
Once upon a time there were 9 people to got together at Lucky Lab on Hawthorne to form a new group called MiPL. That was 6 years ago… (almost to the day!)

Since the traditional 'gift' for a 6 year anniversary is Candy, we will be going to Candy Ultra Lounge for our Anniversary Party. Below are key details you should know.

From 7:15pm to Midnight Candy will be open ONLY to MiPL. We have secured the ENTIRE place ONLY for us!

Theme: SUGAR AND SPICE and EVERYTHING NICE
Candy has a 'moderate' dress code which includes no baseball hats, tennis shoes or t-shirts, so please come dressed respectfully… but play around with theme if you want – plenty of interpretation allowed! Read the rest of this entry »

Thurston Moore & Jandek Play Live @ Hollywood Theater | April 29

Jackpot Records Film & Music Festival is in full swing at Hollywood Theater. According to yesterday's email from Jackpot (and amazingly!), there are STILL tickets left to see Thurston Moore & Jandek live on this Thursday. I wouldn't wait any longer to buy these if you are a fan…just can't imagine there still being any at the door.

From December's Press Release:
Thursday, April 29th Jackpot Records will be presenting a one-time only show with JANDEK AND THURSTON MOORE. Gasp!

Yes, you TOTALLY read that correctly.

In what could be one of the few possible upgrades in both rarity and uniqueness to a live Jandek performance, Thurston Moore will join the legendary Texas recluse for a one-time, on stage collaboration.

Jackpot Records is proud to facilitate this aligning of the planets at the Hollywood Theatre as they did for one of Jandek's earliest live shows nearly four years ago. That show, also curated by Jackpot Records, sold out and was released on CD to widespread acclaim as the album "Portland Thursday". The subsequent years have only enhanced clamor and interest in this true outsider musician.

Thurston Moore, front man for Sonic Youth and aficionado of all things reasonably unique, is a dream collaborator, ramping up the possibilities for what this night could bring. This show, like the musicians themselves, is here only once and then gone forever.

Jandek + Thurston Moore.  Just let it sink in.
When it's done sinking in, click here to purchase tickets, which are now on sale.
