To win a pair of tickets, just comment on this post on why you want to go. We will draw & email winners on Wednesday at noon. Of course, you can go for free if you dress up like a clown.

From press release:
April Fools Costume Party Thursday April 1st Dante's
1st ever April Fools Clown Costume Party.

The evening is all about April fools, fun, balloon animals, big shoes, squirting flowers, drinking, music and clowns, all types of clowns, small clowns, big clowns, naughty clowns, happy clowns, sexy clowns, scary clowns, clown boys, clown girls, tall clowns and wacky clowns and small tiny cars that fit 20.

Ether Circus, Wayne Gacy Trio, and Beyond Veronica will be providing the music for the evening gracing the stage in full clown regalia.

Up first is Ether Circus plays what they call circus punk and it is just what the doctor ordered for a night that will be like a three ring circus. Upbeat wacky punk favored with a touch of a Saturday morning TV clown show gone wrong. Think Bozo on Oxycontin.

Wayne Gacy Trio takes the stage next, the band been making a name for itself throughout the Northwest itself for good reason; electric stage shows, killer songs, wild stage antics, a girl in a body bag and clown for a lead singer. In 2009 they were banned from the Portland Erotic Ball, Read the rest of this entry »

Just Another Music Monday: Experimental Dental School

Posted by Mike Harper

Not quite small and not quite cult, Experimental Dental School comes semi-fresh from their Japanese tour, returning to their foresty hometown of Portland. If you haven't heard their album Forest Field yet, download it in its entirety right here! And no, that's not a link to some sketchy torrent. That's straight from the band. For fans of Pixies, Blonde Redhead, and generally experimental, quasi-dancey Portland electronicish indie duos, keep track of this talent as it starts up a new wave of music at home (not to mention a couple shows with Starfucker in May!)

PDXPipeline FaceBook GroupSpring has arrived and that means a lot of cool events  & shows are coming to Portland. We are ramping up our ticket giveaways. If for some reason you still haven't joined our Portland Facebook Group, you should if you like the FREENESS.

We give out free tickets every Thursday to the group. This week, we will have tickets for:

Portland Dubstep Dance Party Moves Uptown: Version @ Holocene | March 27

From our partners at Lo Dubs Records:

VERSION  – SAT 3/27/10 @ HOLOCENE
(((Dubstep * Dancehall * Soundsystem)))
E3 * MONKEYTEK * JON A.D. * EARLY * JAGGA CULTURE
Sound re-inforcment by H.A.S SYSTEMS
10pm | 21+ | $5

We are pleased to announce VERSION, the flipside of Various, Portland's premier Dubstep dance party since December 2006.

Version is about celebrating bass music and having a nice time. As with Various, we plan to bring quality Dubstep and Dancehall and more on a proper soundsystem.

Building on a strong foundation, Version brings the vibes uptown to Holocene with sub-bass reinforcement from the mighty H.A.S. Systems.

Hosted by JAGGA CULTURE (myspace.com/jaggaculture)
Straight from down Jamaica way and also part of Small Axe crew, Jagga has hosted Various several times and is massively versatile on the microphone. Miles beyond the idea of an MC, he brings a certain laid back musicality to the dance, at times blending into the fabric of the record so well to become invisible.

E3 (myspace.com/dj_e3)
E3 co-hosts the monthly Atlas party at Holocene and is a frequent player in the Various set. He also ran BSI Records, Portland's own dubwise record label as well as Read the rest of this entry »

Last Thursday @ Goodfoot Lounge: Chris Haberman & Roskoe Hall II

I saw Chris and Roskoe working on this show a couple weeks back out of their art studio on SE Stark and 15th. They gave me a Hamm's and showed me a few pieces. The Hamm's was cold and the pieces were what you would expect from these two talented local artists. If you want more of an affirmation than that of how good this show will be, then you can read the full press release here.

Excerpt from press release:

Goodfoot Lounge Last ThursdayArt Opening: KIN FOLK

This show is based off our interpretations, experiences and the definition of what we individually feel the term "KIN FOLK" means: in society, culture and in art.

These interpretations have led to collaborations of artworks between us and many works individually: created virtually on anything we could find (just like the old days) with the result being our own version of Americana: a world of folk art, tradition and urban expression.
