Red Carpet Karaoke

VOICEBOX to host “SOUNDTRACK SING-OFF” Pre-Oscar Awards Gala on Thursday, March 4th, 2010

On Thursday March 4th, the awards season comes to Portland, and the nominees are… YOU!

At the first annual Red Carpet Karaoke, you can take home the “Vobo” at VOICEBOX's pre-Oscar Awards Gala. Dedicated to the iconic and moronic songs of cinema, the stars of this ceremony are the Beautiful, the Talented, and the Tuneless crooners of Portland.

On this night of glitz and glamor, Hollywood search lights rove the Northwest night sky and the red carpet leads the way to VOICEBOX's chic karaoke suites. Whether you dress in Dior or dress for the rain, our paparazzi will snap your photo (Facebook fame or shame!), and the Vobo will go to the Best Celebrity Look- Alike. Next, prime your karaoke pipes on a sparkling sake concoction because the “Soundtrack Sing-Off” premiers at 8pm. In this karaoke competition, singing the cinema hits is not enough — you've got to perform them. Bring down the house with Whitney's “I Will Always Love You” or clear the room with the underpants dance from Risky Business, just make it a show stopper! Vobos will be presented for the Best Soundtrack Song, the Best Soundtrack Performance, and — since this is karaoke — Best Butchered Soundtrack.

Finally, we'll round out the night with the classic Oscar Pool Contest. And remember – the winners of Red Carpet Karaoke will take home more than fame and our a golden statuette. Each Vobo winner will receive a VOICEBOX VIP Party Package: a FREE 2 hour karaoke party for you and your fifteen person entourage.

From 7-midnight, VOICEBOX Karaoke Lounge will be hosting this 21+ “Open Door” party. For just $10 a person, all of our karaoke suites will be open for guests to mix, mingle, hobnob like Hollywood, and sing all night.

I gotta be honest but uh, $10 per person is a lil steeeeeeeeeeeep when the other 90% of karoake places around here are free. Sounded fun though!

  2.   Casey Says:

Yup… this IS Portland, not Hollywood. $10 ruins this.

I think maybe you misunderstand the concept of Voicebox. You can’t compare it to other karaoke places in Portland. It is apples and oranges. At Voicebox, you get a private room and a private karaoke machine/screens where you can play your music with no wait. This is the common way of karaoke in much of Asia and it is never free.

Well, again, I think it is a misunderstanding of the concept of the place as I wrote in my other reply.

Well maybe they’ll have a FREE nite so us AMERICAN’s can understand the ASIAN way of karoake. I can sing in a room at home (beautifully) ….. but I LOVE the “challenge” of singing in front a group of people I don’t know too & trying to get passed those NERVES! We’ll see. This place will be GOOD for those shy types in my life who refuse to even p/up a microphone. UGH. lol.

Julian is right, this is not your local NW Tavern with a small stage and a $60 Karaoke machine in the corner. This place is for you to rent out. There is a similar place near Portland Music on Beaverton Hillsdale that my kids always went to when they were in the Japanese program @ BHS.

$10 is what you would pay for a movie these days. Instead of a movie, you get a chance to mingle with new people and get your Karaoke on. In this economy, I bet $10 re-pays itself in networking contacts.
