Tonight begins Grindhouse Film Festival's “Revenge Of The Old School Kung Fu Masters” series @ Hollywood. Of course, it starts straight Wu-Tang style with the destruction of the Shaolin Temple.

Series continues the next three Wednesdays and the full lineup of films is here: Revenge Of The Old School Kung-Fu Masters @ Hollywood Theater

From Grindhouse:
This spring, only at the Hollywood Theatre, The Grindhouse Film Festival presents an original film series: REVENGE OF THE OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU MASTERS!  After the massive success of the original Old School Kung Fu Masters series last year, here are four more amazing martial arts films.  These are some of the greatest kung fu movies ever made, all from extremely rare 35mm prints.

DEATH CHAMBER (aka SHAOLIN TEMPLE) (1976) The epic story of the destruction of the Shaolin Temple!  A group of men undergo elaborate training at the Temple to learn a wide array of kung fu styles and deadly techniques.  But, Shaolin has a traitor in its midst who is reporting to the evil Manchu government.  Soon, there is a huge martial arts showdown when the Manchus declare Shaolin as enemies, and raid the temple to kill everyone inside.  This is the “Ocean's 11″ of mid 70's Shaw Brothers films, with all of their major stars from the time (it also features Fu Sheng fighting wooden robots)

Mike aka "The Situation" Of Jersey Shore In Portland | April Fools

Yesterday, we heard a rumor that Mike aka “The Situation” of Jersey Shore was going to be in Portland this Thursday. Yep. Today, we found the “info” and not sure if it legit or not.

It is April Fools day
There is this pic on the website (I mean Myspace…umm…2010 here.)
There is no mention on their twitter (don't follow us, so can't DM)
There is no mention on their Facebook page

The only reference is also the same flyer on a Facebook Event, but no actual mention in the information…so, no idea. Don't forget to GTL before you go to…”Dirty”.

If I were you, I would go to First Thursday, this crazy clown party @ Dante's, or the Brewers For Boobs @ East Burn and help raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Tomorrow: "A Few of My Favorite Things" @ Holocene With Sam Adams, Chris Haberman

Holocene, Wieden & Kennedy Entertainment, Creative Advocacy Network (CAN), Sam Adams, Right Brain Initiative, and Pipeline friend Chris Haberman are putting on a big show tomorrow evening.

From Holocene website:

In the 2nd installment of our Favorite Things series, Mayor Sam Adams curates a night of art and music to benefit arts advocacy organizations in Portland!

When we at Holocene started up “A Few of My Favorite Things”, a series in which prominent Portlanders in the arts community curate an evening of multimedia entertainment, we were inspired by the overwhelming spirit of artistic camaraderie which abounds in this town. Now, this has proved more true than we could ever have imagined: the Mayor himself is stepping up to the plate for curation duties! Mayor Sam Adams has put together an eclectic and compelling evening of events, which cuts across all mediums and genres.

On the musical front, he offers the delectable dj stylings of Rev Shines (of PDX dj institution The Fix) and DJ Hwy 7, as well as the rousing, larger-than life sound of quirky-yet-'gazey local indie poppers Soft Tags. There's also a TOP SECRET musical performance! It's on the jazz tip, but beyond that, our lips are sealed. Read the rest of this entry »

Portland Pictures: 8th Annual Vampire Masquerade Ball

Posted by Kimberly Gehl

Portland's 8th Annual Vampire Masquerade BallI attended the Vampire Masquerade Ball for the 2nd year in a row this past Saturday and 1) danced my socks off, 2) took lots of pictures of the exquisite costumes that guests were dawning this year, 3) made sure to steal a moment with the lovely woman responsible for the event, Lady Raven, to grab a picture and congratulate her on another sensational Ball.

Held, as always, at the majestic Melody Ballroom (located at 6th and SE Alder), this year's Ball featured haunting music performed by cellist Adam Hurst and guests; amazing aerial dance performances by Night Flight Aerial, a delicious buffet of sensuous cheeses, meats and chocolates; an array of regional vendors selling masks, costumes accessories and – of course – fresh blood (see pic below); and the much anticipated midnight waltz (which I made sure to be dancing during, even if I'm not an expert at the waltz :P ).

This year's ball was the biggest yet and I'm already looking forward to next year's! Keep up at vampireballpdx.com
