Tonight: The Waiting List – Local Film @ Hollywood Theater

The Waiting List – New Trailer

Local blogger and filmmaker Mike Vogel has a movie screening at Hollywood Theater tonight. It was shot in Oregon City as well as in Portland (Voodoo Doughnut 2). Mike writes:

Please don't mistake this for a heartwarming, feel-good family movie. It is a foul-mouthed, sex-obsessed, back-stabbing comedy about preschool enrollment.

Picture: Marcus Camby In Portland Trail Blazers Uniform

We received an email from the Blazers about 6:25 this evening about the Marcus Camby trade. I don't know if this is photoshopped or not, but this is the first picture I've seen of Marcus Camby in a Blazers uniform (came from here). He's not playing tonight, but should be good to go on Friday against the Celtics.

Some web resources about the trade:
Marcus Camby Blazers UniformFrom ESPN: Clipper/Blazer deal through the eyes of Arnovitz and Abbott

After watching him closely for a couple of seasons, I now fall into the first camp: He's tremendously effective. The Clippers were 7.7 points per 100 possessions better with Camby on the floor. He leads the league in rebounding rate. He's also a good facilitator in the high-low game, and leads power forwards (his nominal position as a Clipper alongside Chris Kaman) in assist rate. The kids in the locker room look up to him and the coaching staff thinks he hangs the moon.

From BlazersEdge: A Look at the (As-Yet-Unofficial) Marcus Camby Trade

Camby is not a great straight-up defender.  He's not going to be handcuffing Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum.  He will block shots, especially when providing help.  The Blazers will take that.

From Dwight Jaynes: Marcus Camby is a great move for Portland

Camby solves a real big problem on defense and the boards and if Brandon Roy is healthy, this team can win a series, depending on matchups. And it's a team you couldn't say that about prior to this deal. Basically, two teams traded players who don't fit their long-term future — and Portland came away with a big advantage.

From Yahoo! Sports: Clippers trading Camby to Blazers

In town in advance of their Tuesday game against the Trail Blazers, the Clippers were having a team dinner at Portland's Ringside steakhouse Monday night when Camby received a call on his cell phone from his agent, Rick Kaplan. Kaplan informed Camby that he would likely be traded to Portland.

Tonight: Atlas Sound @ Holocene

Atlas Sound – Quick canal (featuring Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab)

Atlas Sound (the nom de plume of Bradford Cox, one lanky musical genius behind Deerhunter) is pinning Portland on the map of his tour February 16th at Holocene! Ranging from ambient Animal Collectivesque layers of vocals (not a surprise considering the help of Panda Bear) to simpler love tunes like “Shelia” from his latest album Logos , Atlas Sound is sure to deliver a perfectly round set.

With the help of Portland's own electro-ambient White Rainbow and fancifully indie Nurses, it's bound to be a night that traverses the experimental soundscape.

Just Another Music Monday: Don't Miss Miss Valeri Lopez

Posted by Mike Harper

Valeri LopezThe humble musings of Miss Valeri Lopez settle down on the ear as droplets in Portland's lake of folk, subtly, yet with a ripple nonetheless. Banjo twanging and guitar strumming softly, Valeri's meek and soulful voice brings to mind fields and pastures of the wide Midwest despite her being "from Los Angeles of all places." Between her and just one other band mate, you hear a cornucopia of sound, dabbling toy piano, flute hiding behind keys and organs, and strings plucking away like birds landing on country clouds.

Tonight: Vivian Girls at Holocene

Posted by Mike Harper

Somewhere between the Beach Boys and Bikini Kill are Vivian Girls. Raucously endearing with straightacross bangs, this Brooklyn trio might charm your heartstrings before cutting them loose with piercing amps and yell-song harmonies. Combined with the shoegazey, girl-fronted Best Coast and the punky megaphone energy of Portland's Meth Teeth, this night's bound to keep you moving.

From Holocene: “Whilst the band have again captured their raw, fun edge — as the influence of '60s girl bands, The Ramones as well as surf and indie pop, still ring true – Everything Goes Wrong is without a doubt a darker, moodier album than its predecessor; a trait which arguably makes the band an even more appealing proposition this time around.”
